The second greatest Scottish band of all time

    Is?

    After the Associates, obviously

    Mogwai.

With Belle and Sebastian taking the title as the most underrated. That's not just Scottish either, I mean in general.

Honourable mention for The Vaselines as well.
PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

Do all members need to be from Scotland?

    If not I'd say placebo.

I would say the definition of a scottish band is one that formed in Scotland or consists mostly of scots. There are a few that blur that definition of course, like snow patrol for example. Formed in scotland by northern irishmen but always based in scotland and later to include Scottish members. You'd have a tough time arguing that they're Scottish in Belfast or Bangor though

Franz Ferdinand although as a Teenager in the early 70 s it has to be Nazareth and The Alex Harvey Band

The Skids, Big Country (earlier stuff only, though).

I like the reply to the question about what counts as a Scottish band. Lloyd Cole and the Commotions would fit in to that and Big Country need to rely on the rule to qualify! If we could stretch it all the way out, we could claim Talking Heads and (getting really desperate here) if the parentage rule applied we could argue White Stripes. Typical Scottish so-near-yet-so-far glorious failure - if we could claim those two we'd be world class!

So so many to choose from and my choice would be different every day.

But since they haven't been mentioned:

    Camera Obscura
    Or maybe...The Delgados

Closely followed by Love & Money.

    Oh, and Aztec Camera.

And whatever band Rabbie Burns rapped with.
