It's only right that B+S got a good mention, they've repeatedly given us things of beauty.
As far as other bands go, I'm surprised, maybe it's an age thing, but no mention of Lloyd Cole and The Commotions.
Some exquisite songs and the excuse to indulge in referencing all the French poetry you never actually read and all the classic 50s Hollywood films you'd never seen
Growing up in the 80s they were a lifebeltThere's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

Dont see Del Amitri mentioned and think they were a pretty good band. There are a fair few good ones though.

If we are stretching the rules to the utmost, then Talking Heads skoosh it for me, but in the spirit of things they can't really be considered Scottish.
While I wouldn't put them up as contenders, Hipsway, Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and Love and Money were favourites in my younger days. Teenage Fanclub another.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Deacon Blue, I thought they were incredibly popular, in a sort of 'you wouldn't admit it' way. There's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

Some of us are only lucky enough to play one instrument.
To straddle strings and percussion is a gift.

But we want the clapping - we know fine well you can play the violin
FWIW I was an orchestral timpanist and de facto lead percussionist so I've spent many a piece waiting for that solitary moment when I struck the bloody triangle or clashed the cymbals
Takes talent to provide the accompanimentThere's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

Seen billy McKenzie on totp last week. What a genius, and party fears two may well be the best Scottish single of all time. I particularly liked beyond the sun released just before his untimely death nearly 20 years ago.
I don't know about best band though - for sheer volume of brilliant music simple minds 77-84 is hard to beat.

Primal Scream or the Cinematics, the OK Social Club were a cracking band till they split last year.

Biffy Clyro. Puzzle and Only revolutions are unbelievably nine and seven years old respectively which is scary.
The latter has some songs on it that will be remembered for decades to come.

Thread should have been closed after bigwheel's post in July. Best Scottish band by a country mile.

Saw them a few times back in the late 70s/early 80s, always very good.
