Why was Hanlon captain?

I was not Hanlons biggest fan for quite a while, but he has improved. He's not as good as some make out, but he's the first name on the sheet these days.

He is prone to making the odd howler, but he's normally solid and decent on the ball now.

And he seems to me to have bulked up a bit and not muscled off the ball anywhere near as easily as he was.

I hope he signs a new contract.
