Looking for recommendations for the best Indian in or around the city centre. Needs to be somewhere that can cater for table of 10. Suggestions please.
Mother India, although if it's during festival time then a table that size will probably be impossible.

Kushi's (sp?) at the top of Leith Walk is alright, or at least it was when I went a few years back. Used to be BYOB I think

I went to Brewhemia on Friday (used to be Sportsters\City) for a bite to eat before a fringe show.

What a mistake. Showed us to some seats, gave us some menus then ignored us. It was busy, but not so busy they didn't have empty tables or a lot of waiting staff just stood around. Gave them a chance, waited, waited a bit more then just got up and left.

So, er, yeah. It's done up nicely inside but their service doesn't exist. That's all I can say about it.

Omar khayyam at the west end is quite nice, if you mean that side of the city centre, as is Kebabish on Dalry Road.

For the East End I've always liked Passage to India.

Went to El Cartel on Thistle Street the other day. Absolutely hands down the best Mexican food I've ate in Edinburgh, probably even the best I've ate full stop. Fairly small menu but I went wanting tacos which they have about 6 different types of so that didn't bother me. 2 tacos was £6.50, I got 4 and and 4 was a lot of food although 3 would maybe be not quite enough. I never drank but they do frozen margaritas which looked very good aswell.

Strongly recommend Guru Balti at fountain bridge just opposite Victor Paris. Usual menu but really nice, large portions, and good service.

We usually opt for the dhansak and one of either the jalfreze (sp) and a Madras's pretty spicy! My favourite, by far, in that part of the world.

I go to the Guru quite often but there is no bevvy and BYOB doesn't really suit what I have planned.

My old man is a big fan of Kebabish.

Not been for a while but, The Verandah at the Hmkt end of Dalry Road used to be quite decent.

Got an email today from Vittoria group saying they are offering all season ticket holders at Hibs (and Hearts) 20% off food for the 2017/2018 season at Vittoria on the Bridge and Walk plus La Favorita.

    That is the one downside.

The one at corstorphine, used to be a pub I think, just won an award for best in Edinburgh. Maybe worth a punt.

Only won it due to the owner submitting thousands of votes for himself...true story!

New venue opening in Corstorphine replacing The Oak, looks like it's going to be decent, The Torfin.

I recently met an old boy that told me he washed the dishes in there, he was a disgusting excuse of a man that quite happily spat on the carpet in the pub, rodent of a man. I've heard the food is ok tho! :-)

That and up to the closing date, every patron was given a photocopy of the Evening News voting slip to fill in along with their bill,,,, but other restaurants in Edinburgh were doing the same!

It's not the worst either, Corstorphine is actually quite fortunate to have such variety in "Indian" cuisine.

I like the Verandah, always good food. But it always seems totally deserted when I'm in there. I was there the other weekend, Saturday at around 9pm. Town was fairly busy but me and the wife were the only people in there!

Anything is an improvement on the Oak. When I first moved to the West of Edinburgh we ventured into the Oak before a meal at the Eastern Pavillion (which is brilliant, by the way) but it's the sort of place you just want to walk out of as soon as you walk in. Good riddance to a crap pub.

Worst Restuarant I have ever been in.

Twice been in and never got to main course as service was so slow. At a family meal in there we left after a 3 hour wait in which we were only given starters. Kept being told the food was coming but we eventually lost patience.

The other time was a night out with friends when we gave it another try. we had booked for 7pm a table and were told to wait in the bar, then we got told table would be ready about 8:30, so we decided to go to Abida.

You're right. Disgusting pint of Guinness. Sour. Always a sign that the lines haven't been cleaned regularly. Glasses always had bubbles up the inside ditto not cleaned properly. Rare times I went in there were a small group of nasty locals.

It's due to be a steakhouse I gather. Better be good right next to the Wetherspoons which takes trade away from all the Corstorphine pubs.

Is it still going to be under the same ownership or changing hands?

Would certainly make a difference whether I tried it or not 🤔

I see L'enclume has been knocked back into second place after four years at the top. I mentioned it on this thread a few weeks ago after an indulgent visit with my daughter there. Unbelievably good.......... must have been, said my bank manager.

Down in Leeds next weekend and tried for No.50 on that list, The Man Behind The Curtain but it was fully booked. Own fault for leaving it until yesterday to try and book!

Going to the Crafthouse instead, will report back

Do fancy L'Enclume though, did you stay there as well?
There's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

No. We made a day of it. Train from Glasgow to Lancaster, then train up to Grange over Sands and taxi to Cartmel. The meal ( tasting menu ) took about three hours then reversed journey.
