Great news - he made himself one of our most important players last season - delighted he's signed up to Stubbsy's dream team for another season! Bring on next season - Allan next please!

Valuable insight about Stubbs relationship with SA as reported in the Evening News...

"Revealing he had been in regular contact with his playmaker over the break, he said he had no"

Stubbs isn't his dad, Allan works for Hibs and as such will go back to work in due time.

Why are folk getting their knickers in a twist over that?

The break Stubbs is referring to will be the whole close season. Of course, managers, players and agents are in constant touch over the close season, otherwise no business would ever get done.

If there is a specific period a player doesn't want to take calls or answer emails or texts, I'm sure that could be arranged. It's not rocket science.

But the idea that a pro footballer is un-contactable for the entire close season is nonsense.

No knickers in a twist, players and management are away on holidays, there needs to be no contact till they report for training unless a team comes in with a bid for them.

Or possibly a club wants to extend a contract.

Or perhaps the manager wants to confirm/quash rumours in the press.

Or a manager wants to ask for an opinion about a player.

Or a manager wants to enquire into the player's health issues.

Loads of people stay in touch with their work during holidays. Regardless of where I am, or how long for, I check my work email every day, as does my wife.

The post wasn't in regard the manager who will be very busy even on holiday at this time of the year, it was questioning whether he was in contact with Allan and there is no reason for him to be unless he was selling him.

    I know, but I disagree.

As I pointed out, there are loads of reasons managers keep in touch with their players over the close season.

Maybe the player contacted the manager to quash rumours. Maybe the player wanted to know who else was signing.

Maybe the player gets on well with the manager and phones for a chat about Big Brother. Or maybe it was the other way round.

I've certainly had managers I would enjoy chatting to outside of working hours and I've had staff who kept in touch with me.

There is nothing even slightly suspicious or unusual about Stubbs being in touch with Scott Allan over the close season.

    No point keeping one otherwise.

So glad to see this post - I came on at post #101 and thought I'd somehow got another thread entirely.

Very pleased about Fontaine. He's a good defender and brings a lot to the team, and the fact that he's another of last year's team prepared to sign up for another season testifies to the fact that things have changed for the better at the club. If players are happy to stay on, it means Dempster and Stubbs must be doing something right.

(Like showing a genuine interest in the players and keeping in touch through the close season? )
