.... can't really have an iconic intro thread without Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" ... think Jimmy Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" is a great intro too ... as is "Start me up" by the Rolling Stones ....

Personally I think the best intros are those that have nothing much to do with the song/tune itself, but are instantly recognisable.
Spin Doctors - 2 Princes
Elvis/Fine Young Cannibals - Suspicious Minds
FYC (again) - Good Thing
Oasis - Stand by Me
U2 - Pride
Beatles - Hard Day's Night (one chord)
Men at Work - Down Under
The Vapours - Turning Japanese
Boomtown Rats - Number One
Aerosmith/Run DMC - Walk This Way
Smiths - What Difference Does it Make
Shadows - Apache
There are loads ...Last edited by Peevemor; 03-04-2015 at 11:50 AM.

My Girl - Madness
I found this on the interweb a few weeks ago - Mike Barson the Edinburgh-born (not a lot of people know that) Madness pianist/songwriter explains how the song's put together. I think it's brilliant!
