The runnerup in group B. We'll find out tomorrow, could be any of the four teams, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Zambia or Congo DR.

Looks like we will be without malonga a little while yet. Congo scrape through to quarter finals!

So the Republic of Congo will play the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter finals on Saturday.

    Confused? You should be.

For some of us, maybe. Slight difference in the populations though lol

Population of Republic of Congo- just over 4 million
Population of Democratic Republic of Congo- over 77 million!

    Yeah I know.

I know the difference between the pair of them as well, it's just a bit more difficult when you're referring to them both by name!

Totally agree, you were quite right to say it was confusing. I think I'm right in saying that DR Congo was formerly known as Zaire, for 25 years or so, after the break up of Belgian Congo. I know that doesn't make it any easier though!

    It was.

DR Congo was a Belgian colony and Congo was a French colony, both until 1960.

Has to be Republic of Congo.

They won two out of their three group matches and finished top, whereas DR Congo drew all three of their matches and finished second.

DR Congo are slightly higher ranked in the FIFA rankings though.

It probably won't matter when they get knocked out from now on to be honest.

Their quarter final is played on Saturday so that will rule him out of the Raith Rovers game. He is suspended for the following match against Arbroath anyway so considering that the final is being played on Sunday 8th February, he'll probably be back in time for the Sevco game, regardless of how Congo gets on.

He could have played on Saturday if Congo had been eliminated in the group stage.

Added to that, imagine the psychological high he'll get if Congo actually win the thing and he contributes. His exposure to high quality opposition, dealing with high pressure matches, can only benefit us as a club.

We should stop moaning and cheer on the Red Devils (this will come as second nature to trig already of course...)

I agree. Nobody seems truly up for it. It really is a tournament without a true vocation now.

Yup. How long is it since we had a player in a major international tournament? This is good for us and good for Dom.

And it's not as if we've been struggling to score in his absence ....

Though I do agree with those who say the tournament should be every 4 years like the Euros and the World Cup. The games I've watched have shown every sign of spectator overkill - too much of a theoretically good thing, IMO.

I was reading that there isn't much of a culture of away fans travelling in African football, for lots of different reasons, cost, dodgy infrastructure, wars etc. So unless the hosts are involved the atmosphere can be a bit flat.
