    Sale of goods act.

I need some information please, i bought a new powakaddy F3 from American golf on the 29th of last month, and have played 3 rounds of golf since purchasing it.

I played yesterday and when i got home i plugged the battery in as usual, they say that the battery needs to be left on charge all the time and thats what i have done since buying it.

I went out last night for an hour and when i returned there was a funny smell a burning smell and the charger made a loud bang and is now not working.

I took it back this morning and demanded a new one as the one i purchased was obviously not fit for purpose, and it was not even a month old.

The guy behind the counter was having none of it, and said they had someone who comes in on tuesday who will test the charger and the battery and he will call me with what he finds then.

Reading up on the net on this subject, i have seen that if this happens it can affect the battery and lead to the life span of the battery lessening.

I would imagine they will replace the charger, but would i have any chance in refusing to have the old battery and demanding a new one?

To be perfectly honest i'd have thought they should replace the lot?

The battery will have a year's guarantee so if it's knackered, it will be replaced.

Good to see that you're back golfing.

I've (probably) got a fair bit of work in Thornton Cleveleys coming up which will mean me coming down on Sundays.

If there's a chance of a hack round with you, I'll leave Edinburgh early.
Buy nothing online unless you check for free cashback here first. I've already earned £2,389.68!

Hi pal, yes that would be good Dave. Give me some notice pal and i will book a tee time for us. Regarding the battery, i'm a bit worried they will just tell me its fine i mean the battery, although i suppose i will have the years warranty.

The battery could well be affected. Any sudden draw or 'short' on a battery will affect it's ability to hold charge in the future, if tested with a volt meter it may well show 6 or 12 volts (depending on battery voltage) across the terminals but that doesn't necessarily mean there's a healthy charge being stored. Its internal resistance (which indicates the health of the cell) is what needs to be checked, by either fully charging it and recording voltage against time when it's under load or by using a specialist piece of kit that can measure the health of the cell, I'd urge you to ask that the latter is done and they give you the figures. You can then check these figures against the manufactures specs or data sheet, usually available on-line.

Had a similar problem with a rechargeable hoover I bought for the car that packed in after using it twice. I took it back to the store and the salesman put a Hearts scarf on it. Now it sucks again.

    I'll get my coat.
