Anyone watching the England vs San Marino game?
Anyone care to explain why England were awarded an indirect free kick in the box following a San Marino defender heading the ball back to the keeper before he palmed it down and eventually proceeded to pick it up?

England vs San Marino
Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity. All it takes is a little push.

Keeper can't be in control of it with his hands, drop it and pick it up again.
Palming it down to yourself is deemed to be in control of it btw.

Same rule that was introduced to stop keepers picking it up, dropping it, picking it up etc.
Think it was introduced the same time as the pass back rule.

San Marino apparently has a population of 32,000. Take out 17,000 to account for women, then factor in the male demographic being 16-36 or so, you're probably down to a pool of around 4,000 to choose from (and that's before you assume they're all keen footballers). Got to be around the standard of a lowland league club at best, you'd imagine!
You'd certainly fancy your chances of being selected at age group level in your teens.
What an experience for, what will be, very average footballers

Anyone know why San Marino have changed the colour of their strip?
I used to like their sky blue strips.

Edit: Just spotted this on the BBC website .......
A horrible mistake by goalkeeper Iker Casillas sees holders Spain fall behind away to Slovakia in Group C, Genoa's Juraj Kucka giving the hosts a 17th minute lead from a free-kick which the stopper should have saved.Last edited by Jonnyboy; 09-10-2014 at 07:12 PM.

I'd rather win games, remember they'd still get to Olay in these games of they won their qualifiers

San marino, Andorra etc were offered the minnow group and IIRC they rejected it as the big teams were good for the economy via fans and tourist exposure.

Which makes the subsequent explanations on here irrelevant, as a header back to the keeper is not considered a 'pass back' under the particular rule.
