Train to Queen of the South

Anyone know where the best train station is to go to on Saturday? Dumfries? Also, anyone know what the price is for a 15 year old? Wee brother going through with some of his pals, thanks.

£5 for U-16s. Train will take over 3 hours with one or two changes - not a great service.

Quickest way is probably to get off at Lockerbie and get bus to Dumfries. Alternatively train to Carlisle and connect to Dumfries

Edinburgh to Lockerbie is approx 1 hour. No stops after Hay Market (extra 20 mins to Carlilse). Bus from Lockerbie to Dumfries is an ok service, quite frequent and I'm.guessing around £5 per return. Trains from Carlilse to Dumfries run (mostly) every hour on a Saturday and only cost £6 per return. Glasgow Central to Dumfries is approx 1.5 hours as it stops about 10 times. Cheapest option probably is to go from Glasgow if you can get a return from Edinburgh for around £10 - no idea if thats possible or not.

Child (5-15) goes free with a fare paying adult when buying a return ticket. Usually only valid on Scotrail trains but do check when purchasing what other companies accept them. My advice to your brother is to avoid the train as an option on Saturday. Very tricky place to get to.

Either across to Glasgow Central and down to Dumfries via Kilmarnock or down to Carlisle and double back up through Gretna and Annan. All will take roughly 2-3 hours and connection times for returning home are not great. Could involve lengthy waits at Dumfries or Carlisle.

A guy at work lives in Dumfries and commutes into Edinburgh each day and he does it doing just that (he sometimes drives to Lockerbie rather than take the bus).

Will we need our passport at the border if going to Carlisle?

I checked the costs the other week there and it was £30 odd for an adult 😨 3 hour journey including a change of train at carlisle/lockerbie. No thanks.

Take you a bit longer from the centre of Edinburgh than 90 mins, that's unless you're Jackie Stewart

Always enjoy a wee drive to Dumfries from Penicuik. 40 mins to Abington then 40 mins to Dumfries although the last time we were down at Dumfries the locals were not too friendly with fans in the away end wearing Rangers (remember them)? scarfs .

Train defo not a great option though

Any idea on a train back from Lockerbie after 6pm? I can't seem to get anything through Trainline.

1830 Lockerbie gets to Ed Wav 1940, you would need to go via Glasgow after that.

I see what I've done there! Meant home fans. I've seen some things in Hibs ends over the years but thankfully no Barry Muns scarfs!
