Hibernian have today launched plans to celebrate the 70th birthday of Pat Stanton at the upcoming Scottish Championship match against Cowdenbeath at Easter Road (Saturday 13 September, kick off 3pm) with 7,000 FREE tickets being made available to Season Ticket Members.

One of Easter Road’s all-time greats and a descendant of the club’s first-ever captain Michael Whelahan, Stanton famously led the team to the unforgettable 1972 League Cup triumph.

Stanton supported, played, captained and managed Hibernian; his overall contribution to the club has been unmistakably Hibs class.

Now the man who wore the captain’s armband when Hibernian won 7-0 at Tynecastle on New Year’s Day 1973 is about to reach the ripe old age of 70 and every member of The Hibernian Family is invited to join the party and celebrate.

The idea was initiated by members of Working Together and, after Pat’s endorsement, it has now become a reality with the club making the event extra special by ensuring every Season Ticket Member can bring a friend for FREE to the game.

Further information about how to obtain your FREE ticket will be announced in due course.

To celebrate alongside Pat a special event in the club’s Eighteen75 restaurant, hosted by Grant Stott, is available to purchase now by emailing mmcavoy@hibernianfc.co.uk. Spaces for this must-attend and unique event are limited, so please avoid disappointment by booking now (£80 for non-Season Ticket Members and £60 for Season Ticket Members).

A commemorative programme will also be produced to celebrate the contribution of our greatest ever number four – Patrick Gordon Stanton.

There will also be opportunities inside the stadium for supporters to donate to Pat’s favourite charity, Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT).

More details of the special day’s events, including a guard of honour featuring the Tornadoes, will be announced in due course.

It's about the only way they'll get one.
