Thread: Chris Hoy

    Chris Hoy

With the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow, it reminded me of a rumour I heard that Sir Hoy is of the Yammish persuasion, is this true? Still a great representative for Scotland either way of course.

Chris Hoy isn't really a football fan, but his family are of a Jambo persuasion.

I do remember him saying he was a bit embarrassed to be called a jambo, I would as well.

100% of the yammish persuasion. But in a talking about it in the snug sort of way rather than an attender of games. Source? A guy I met on the train on the way back from the Aberdeen semi a few years ago who claimed to work for his sponsors. Hed been at the yam celtc game.

Was he not paraded at one of their games after he'd won his Olympic medals?

He was. He also attended George Watson's whose colours are maroon.

I heard that he watched a DVD of some long forgotten derby before he competed for his gold medal at the London Olympics...

But, he's such a legend that the fact he's a jambo is irrelevant.

I mind when Andy Murray had won something big (his first major I think) he had to make sure that he was pictured doing a 5-1 at the airport for the corner of the same page of the papers.

    The jambo fud can GIRFUH.

Embarrassed? I would sue for slander if I was called that in public!

I'm sure he was paraded halftime at an Edinburgh Derby at the PBS. I don't think most folk had heard of him but he got a nice boo from the away end regardless :)

I find it sad when Jambos dont like Andy Murray as he is a Hibee, So I dont care who Hoy supports. What he has acheived is amazing.

My other half met Chris Hoy in a professional context, not long after that happened. His colleague, who is a jambo, asked him if he would do the 5-1 gesture for a photo, and he politely refused, point-blank to have anything to do with it. Can't remember exactly what he said, but along the lines, I think, of not wanting to get suckered into that again, and not wanting it to be used to wind people up, or something like that.

I think he has described himself as a luke-warm kind of fan, and I don't get the impression that Hearts or football are high up his list of priorities.

Anyway, I'm in the 'he's a superb sportsman, seems like a decent chap, and he can support who he likes' camp.
