I travel all over for work so I stay in a lot of hotels.
I've lost count of the number of times I've woken up in the night, needing a pee, only to bounce around the room having forgotten where the bathroom is, in my fourth different hotel room that week.
I don't turn the light on cos it will hurt my eyes and wake me up, until my bladder leaves me no choice, which doubly defeats the purpose.
So, I downloaded a night light which can be adjusted to give the perfect amount of light to help me find the cludgie and not keep me awake.
It really is a perfect solution.

I've downloaded loads of "useful" apps over the years only to find myself hardly ever using them. There are some that I use like the flashlight things (the street lights switch off at 10.00pm where I live, so sometimes I can't even find my front door when I get home) and there are others like tuners and metronomes that are handy to have.
Another that I do use quite often is direct.ly, which enables you to acces files on your pc from your mobile and download them if need be. Now if someone asks me for a file, I can get it and send it to them straight away instead of forgetting when I get home.

In fact, there have been occasions when I've woken in the morning and genuinely not known which city I was in.
And before anyone suggests otherwise, these lapses are not drink related!
Anyway, this thread was intended to harvest helpful apps for us to use, not to comment on my aging memory (and dodgy bladder)!

I play with cat piano in some unlikely places; pubs, restaurants, buses, airports, hospitals.
Always a good hoot watching folk looking for a cat where there shouldn't be one :-)
If there is a cat present, pavement bars overseas and the like, its quite often even better as it gets somewhat confused as well.
If anyone hears a cat at Easter Road its probably me. I'm a bad man who seriously needs to grow up!Space to let

Probably the one I use most constantly is the one that tells me the state of play with how charged up the mobile phone's battery is.

Find my friends. The best and also the worst.
Lying about where you are is no longer an option.

The Weather Channel - one of the better weather ones IMO
Swiftkey - Keyboards for Android (better than stock IMO)
Nova Launcher - Android Launcher, customize pretty much everything on your phone.

Radge , i stay away quite a bit too and im quite lucky that i dont have a limit on my hotels but i started using Best Western last year and got their loyalty card. Within 4 months i was a Diamond member and had enough points to get a £60 M&S voucher.
I've already cashed in a £40 amazon voucher this year and still have enough point left for 2 free nights away.
Also used my points to get a family room for 2 nights earlier this year and only had to pay for the kids dinners , the point covered the rest.
Well worth it. Most Best Westerns have the essentials , Bar , Restaurant , Gym and Pool.No Eternal Reward Shall Forgive Us Now For Wasting The Dawn

I was a Platinum member of Hilton Honours and a Diamond member with Holiday Inn.
However, I'm now paid a set fee, so the hotels are up to me and there's no point me spending more than I need to for a kip.

EdinBus app is really good for bus times. For music i use Soundcloud and Mixcloud. For results the Skysports app. And the Kairosoft games are decent.

Skype is good when you're away.
Skygo and Movietube for android users only.
Dependant on your data allowance obviously.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

EdinBus - use it all the time, no longer standing at bus stops for ages waiting.
LiveScore - I use SkySports app as well, but LiveScore is quicker to get around.

If you have TiVo then the Virgin App is a brilliant addition to your phone or tablet.
The new official lothian buses app is pretty good too.

Here in Germany there's an app called Lieferando for getting food delivered. Got something like 150 restaurants to choose from in my postcode. Must be something similar in Edinburgh.

Shazam is quite handy. If you hear a song you like, turn it on and it'll tell you the artist.
