Other teams will know we have spend a lot of our budget on management team and those that are in top six will want to stay there as they won't see us as threat at present and if they can strengthen and we can't then yep we may find ourselves in bottom six again .its just where we are and if can't compete properly in market till summer then that's what prudent management means financially.if we get out bid in summer for tells top targets then yes we would be right to worry then

sad times when Aberdeen outbid us on wages (TB himself said they did) but I suppose that is the position Aberdeen are in, they don't have a stadium & training centre to pay off. They can also see that a striker is what they needed & with him 2nd place & the league cup is almost a certainty, they are speculating to accumulate & it will probably pay off. Hibs operate in a slightly different way & it's a way that will mean our club is around for the next 100 years but it's not necessarily the way that will see us bag the best players on the market. Agreed. As other posters have said Rooney is very similar to Collins in style of play but IMO we have the better player & certainly the one with greater potential & value. I would much rather we kept our money than spend out on people like Sodje or Agogo.

I think we have already established that we didn't pay £200k for Collins, this was a media myth, Petrie apparently laughed when it was suggested we paid that kind of money at a fans meeting.

Aberdeen may have not paid transfer fees but I would suggest players like Anderson, Reynolds, Flood, McGinn, Hayes, Robson, Langfield, Rooney are all on decent wages. I would also expect them to have to pay more for them to persuade them to relocate to Aberdeen too as it's not exactly the desirable city that the likes of Glasgow & Edinburgh are in the eyes of many.

Is the east stand and east mains paid for? Surely that's part of the mortgage?

And FWIW, although a mortgage is technically a debt it is a debt we have taken on an are paying up. I.e we can afford it and are living within our means. A fact some hearts fans cannot understand

I just said a fee, which is what we paid at some level. We've plenty of players ourselves who will be on decent money - Colins, Craig, Robertson, Thomson, Vine, Nelson, McPake, McGivern, Heffernan to name a few.

I don't think there is any great difference in pushing the boat out or ambition, they've just had a more settled period and added to what has gone on before in key areas, and chosen pretty well for the most part.

Hopefully St Johnstone tell them where to go. Im not the biggest fan of May but hes 21, the leagues top scorer and in terrific form. When you consider they sold Dwight Gayle in the summer for £4.5m it does seem a bit of a joke bid.

He was a name Butcher had mentioned mate but we never put any bid in. Butcher obviously didn't think he's worth what Dons paid and as I said on another thread we will bring in better. Collins and Rooney are much the same. We need a Pacey striker.

We've been in the habit of panic buying every time we change managers, which is extravagant and wasteful, and needs to stop.

Butcher isn't just signing players for the sake of it, and for that I for one am grateful.

We won't go down, we won't be in the play-off spot, and we'll strengthen in the summer once TB's had a proper long look at things.

In the meantime he's working at securing our best youngsters for the future.

In a win for us last season againt St. J he and Hasslebaink were superb upfront and could have scored about 5 against us had they been finishers...but they didn't. That I believe is the lesson here.

Tade playing against us has had everything bar the composure to stick the ball in the net ... but if he had that and the pace, power, skill etc he wouldn't be coming anywhere near Hibs ...

I agree with this, Rooney is far too similar to what we already have and lets face it the reason we are in the mess we are in is down to the previous manager signing players that were too similar to what was already there.
