No Pleasure
As a Hibs supporter I take no pleasure in the turmoil that is going on at Tynecastle. When I was a nipper my dad used to take me to Tynecastle and Easter Road week in week out.
Lots of fathers and sons did that in the sixties.
In the 70s, and playing for a local Granton team which comprised both persuasions, we all used to go along to both grounds and laugh at players like Eric Carruthers, Ernie Winchester and Roy Barry. It was just a big laugh. Usually followed by a big bevvy.
When did it get so horribly serious? I reckon in the 80s when Wallace Mercer tried to take over Hibs.
It's mad.

Wallace Mercer and the takeover changed the landscape - it was a horrendous period for Hibs and we (Hibs) showed a tremendous spirit to come through it and subsequently prosper. But the seeds for hate were sewn in my opinion. The mood at games changed and there was far more animosity. Hearts fans always seemed to retain this haughty opinion of themselves - fans and players - with no real right to have that air about them. Hibs had more realism.
My Hearts supporting mates are all a good laugh, sensible, and only one loudmouth has ever come out with this 'big team, 5-1' lilian gish - he just gets waved away because he has always been regarded as a bit of a waster and an erse. The rest are sound blokes who just support their team and if they win, smile and have a wee banter, if they lose, they take it back with no hassle. Some haven't been to Tynie since it became clear Romanov was a rogue.
I've posted before that I hope they survive - not go unpunished - but survive. The reason - I love the derby, the game, the banter that goes with it and the elation if and when we win. Imagine losing that feeling when Rossy C curled in that Tynie winner ? I want many many more of those winning feelings against them. But I also want to see two lads who I like and respect, keep their jobs - it literally isn't their fault their club/employer is the way it is.
Today is the start of a much worse path for them though - I think it's only just started and it's going to get a whole lot worse for them. Their club is in very very real danger of dying.

I thought this was a thread to propose we play them in a friendly as it will probably be the next and only way we will meet again, obviously once they are liquidated

Friendly ? ................ no chance!!!
Thankfully we dont have the lunacy outside of the stadium they do in some other parts of the globe, but the Edinburgh derby does seem to have a real spitefull and bitter edge it perhaps didnt have many years ago.
I do however firmly believe that the blame for this escalation can be firmly laid at the door of the maroon side of the city and to my mind it started long before the Mercer incident. It is a well known fact that during their time in the first division in the 70s a visit from the hearts fans to your ground was not a prospect to be enjoyed and as far as I can recall they were widely despised by the fans of other 1st division clubs as a result. Unfortunately they re entered the SPL with the same attitude.
In the book these colours dont run by Derek Dykes and Andy Colvine the hearts casuals are berated as a joke, but it is mentioned that the average hearts fan didnt need much encouragement to get into a punch up.
It certainly seems to me that for reasons best known to themselves the Yam fans over these years developed a hatered of us which was way out of proportion to the relative fortunes of the two clubs in and out of derby matches. There can be no doubt that in recent years the Hibs fans seem to have decided that enough is enough and have started to match and in some cases surpass the hatred shown to us by them.
Its just a surprise it took us so long to be honest.

There are some hearts fans speculating that a couple of pre-season games v us at £10 / head might give them enough cash to keep going.............
Clearly the mental hospitals have been opening their doors early

In the present atmosphere the idea of us playing them in a couple of friendlies to raise money for them is ludicrous. There's no way that I would pay good money to watch a game when I knew that the proceeds were going to them rather than to my own team. At their ground or ours, i would be concerned about injury to our players; at our ground I would expect them to do as much damage to the seating and toilets as they could. It's what they've done regularly for years now - why would they change for this game?
Once upon a time I wouldn't have wanted them to go out of business; now, after all the carry-on from mercer and Vlad and Foulkes and the rest? Bad cess to the whole bunch of them.

The key point though, is that it is nothing to do with how either ourselves or Hearts fans feel about it. The club has made its decisions (poor, cheating, morally repugnant and probably criminal ones imo) and must now pay the price.

I was taken to both grounds in the eighties...and I want them crushed.
They were our rivals even after Mercer but the whole romanov era changed everything.
Friendly derby? There hasn't been an honest derby for nine years and this admission that they've been cheating calls the result of every one of them into question.
"we've still got five one"
Have you? Cast-iron, rubber-stamped cheats.

Actually, I reckon going into admin is the best thing for Hearts. Then the crooks who've been running the show for the last god knows how long can't influence matters.

I think of it as being offered a one night stand by Halle Berry on condition I am castrated the next morning. Tempting, but I'll pass.Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.
