I wish people would stop saddling this thread with bad puns.
We go galloping into these things, like a rampant capitalist getting excited at a New market, but really just building up a terrible thirsk.

I think all this Taunton of pun makers is unnecessary. Wincanton here and it all kicks off.
Mind you, all this contamination of food will drive people away from processed food, and back into more simple fare, liked cooked bread. Better look out my Towcester.Last edited by Twa Cairpets; 17-01-2013 at 01:15 PM.

Butchers in Edinburgh are benefiting at least, many of them quoting 10-15% increase in trade on mince and burgers. People buying from a source they can trust rather than being ripped off by supermarkets passing off cheap muck as quality.

Finally and hopefully people will learn.......
Stop buying off these rip off merchants and buy local.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

I really don't see what the big deal is, people should be worried about all the other ***** that's put into burgers and ready meals. Horse is a decent meat!

Agreed there is no problem with horse meat legitimately entered into the food chain that is fit for human consumption, the problem is with the illegitimate horse meat and the vetinary drugs it may contain. I have grown up as a butchers son and as such have eaten pretty much every meat and offal available. Good local butchers and suppliers can provide provenance of their products.Give me a local reputable butcher any day over the big bully boy supermarkets. I know where all of the meat I consume comes from

After the BSE scare every bit of beef is supposed to be traceable back to a farm and even individual animal I thought?
If Findus lasagne has turned out to be 100% dobbin meat how does that work then?

The passport helps:
- make sure horses treated with certain medicines don’t end up as food for people
- prevent the sale of a stolen horse, pony or donkey, as the passport proves its identity
You (or the animal’s main keeper) may have to show the passport to a Trading Standards inspector or an animal health officer.

There are obviously questions to be answered, but it looks to me like the independant control/checking system seems to have worked pretty well in this instance.

As there could be with eating in a restaurant with poor hygiene standards, not really the point though as we are talking about illegitimate horse meat entering the food chain.
