It's got to be a three way fight between Neil Robertson, Judd Trump and John Higgins. You can never count out Ronnie O'Sullivan either, although I don't see him winning.

Higgins v Trump is a potential semi final, that would be some match!

He probably won't face an easier match for the rest of the tournament, that's for sure. Higgins was absolutely dreadful yesterday, you really wouldn't have known that he was the defending champion.

Stephen Maguire won't be an easy match for him, he's only beaten him once in their seven matches so far.

He would then have the small matter of possibly facing Judd Trump in the semis as well. Hendry's certainly not one of the favourites to win the title but as the saying goes - "class is permanent".

Not been on here much over the w-end, too busy down in The Big Smoke. Well done Mr Hendry, another outstanding effort. O'Sullivan looked good in beating Williams earlier. Would've been quite funny to see Carter lose the last frame after his premature celebration, fair play too him though, it was a fine comeback.

I think the answer to that question is an overwhelming "no".

Terrible performance by Hendry this morning and he's currently 7-1 down to Stephen Maguire after the first session.

Hendry retires from tournament snooker after a crushing defeat in the last 8 according to Eurosport.

Not too upset about that to be honest.

The mans a legend, there was nae need for him to go on playing as long as he did.

I remember seeing him play Steve Davis in Livingston back in about 1986, Davis won 6-2, but you could see he was something special.

Hendry certainly played on for a few years too many.

Over the past few years, he's just not been competitive in a lot of his matches.

Obviously a lot of comparisons have been made between himself and Steve Davis over the years, considering how long they've both kept playing, but the main difference between the two has been mentioned on several occasions and it's very true.

Steve Davis loves to play snooker matches whereas Stephen Hendry loves to win snooker matches.

Even during his announcement tonight, Hendry made it quite clear that he wasn't interested in playing in tournaments, simply to make up the numbers. He wanted to play in tournaments that he had a realistic chance of winning because for many years, he was always the man to beat.

It must be really difficult for people like Hendry, who play an individual sport and who have dominated that sport for many years, to accept that they are no longer the best in the world and that there are younger players coming up who are challenging them and beating them on a regular basis.

He's certainly had a wonderful career, his seven world titles are not under any threat at the moment and probably won't be for quite some time either. He'll undoubtedly go down as the greatest snooker player of all time and one of the best Scottish sportsmen of all time as well.

After listening to Ronnie's interview from earlier on today I wouldn't be surprised if he follows in Hendry's footsteps and retires if he wins the final.

After listening to Ronnie's interview from earlier on today I wouldn't be surprised if he follows in Hendry's footsteps and retires if he wins the final.

You really never know with Ronnie O'Sullivan. He's so up and down and his head can go all over the place from day to day that I don't think that even he knows what he's going to be doing.

He's said in the past that he's going to be finishing with snooker and that he hates it etc etc and yet he's still out there.

He's obviously getting older now though and may have other things in his life as he approaches 40.

On his day, Ronnie O'Sullivan is the best player to watch. He's just so talented and has a natural gift to play snooker. If he does retire after tomorrow then it would be a real shame for the sport of snooker.

PS-That's now 9-5 to O'Sullivan. Three frames left today.

I never watched too much of yesterdays play as football comes first (and Homeland), but, with Ronnie now holding a 10 7 overnight lead, I'd be surprised if he loses. All credit to Carter though who has had a real struggle against Crohn's Disease recently.
