I'd say that's a good decision. If you watch the replay at 1:26, there's contact which puts the striker off balance - thus the fresh-air swipe. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

And you thought Scotland had bad Referees......
I think it is Liam Miller who is judged to have committed the foul.

24-04-2012 12:14 PM #3I would agree from the angle of 1:26 it looks as if miller gets a touch but from every other its surely obvious that he doesn't, He flicks his foot out but doesn't make contact. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

From first viewing it looks like a pen but with replays I think the boy just has a fresh air swing.
For anyone living down under what standard is the A League compared to the SPL?

24-04-2012 12:28 PM #6It was a Cup Final, I don't think either Hibs or Hearts fans would forget a decision like that any time soon if it cost them the cup. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The only decision this season I've seen as bad as that was Aluko's dive against St.Mirren. So I don't know how you can say there are worse decisions made in the SPL.

I have sympathy for referees in this type of incident. I think the tread should be called 'And you thought Scotland had diving, cheating players ...'.
Even after a few angles there is debate here about whether there was contact or not. I don't know how footballers manage to do their Christmas shopping in busy places - they would be diving all over the place with the 'contact'.
Personally I would hammer any cheat with a 10 game ban and sometimes I'm glad some penalties aren't given, when there is too much made of the tackle. If players didn't cheat, the referees would make better decisions.
Note 1 - I am not a referee.
Note 2 - All the above moral high horsing can happily be forgotten if it goes the right way on May 19th.

If the Yams or us got that there would be a riot at Hampden.
It was a cup final but is the equivalent of winning the league over here I think (correct my if I'm wrong). But you compete in the league to get into the Finals series which culminates in the Grand Final - the game from the footage. Shocking decision at such a crucial stage in the game/season.

Stonewaller.
In all seriousness though, Miller shouldn't have stuck his foot out like that anyway, you always run the risk of giving away a pen for that, even if no contact is made.
Still.... celebrating a penalty win is a bit cringe worthy.

24-04-2012 01:04 PM #11It's a bit slower, but that is not a bad thing tbh. I think in general the standard is fairly even. Miller has done ok, Sutton was not great, Mehmet ended up being decent. Fairly similar. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
As for the decision, was watching it live and thought it was a stonewaller at first.

24-04-2012 01:07 PM #12Was the 97th minute of the Grand Final...hence the over exuberant celebrations! The same player had just equalised 10 minutes earlier as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

But imagine the penalty wasn't converted, then he would have looked like a right numpty.
Should save the celebration until after, never before.

So if we get a 94th minute penalty in the SC final to win it, im sure you'll be nice and calm then?
So it begins. 5/2/13

The ref had what, 1....2 seconds to make that call, whereas we judge it on as many slowmo replays as we like. I'm not commenting here on whether he got it right, but he could have consulted with his linesman.....or, here's a crazy thought, if tv replays were allowed, he could have taken all of 20 seconds to watch it again himself and make a more informed decision, whatever it ended up being.

Looked a penalty at full speed to me.
Obviously with the benefit of about 20 replays we can all see it wasn't but from where the ref was, the way Miller hangs his foot out and the way the guys balance goes then I can see why its given.
As said above, not that dissimilar from Mickey Weir on the Skol Cup Final.

While I think he got the call wrong, I don't blame the ref as it looked like a stonewaller at first glance.
Even after several views, I'm not 100% certain that LM didn't make contact.
If he didn't though, the disgusting part is the player claiming for it after he fell.
I'm no referee fan however, the blatant cheating by players these days is totally abhorent and until THEY, as "professionals" clean up their act, we shouldn't slag off refs for 'bad' decisions like the one in this vid.
