That transfer fee was inflated by both 'English player tax' and end-of-January panic. Crowbarring a massive fee out of an EPL club on deadline day is one thing, claiming that Hooper is worth £35m in the cold light of day is another entirely.

There is, of course, absolutely no way in a million years that Hooper is worth much more than 20% of £35 million, but in these post Andy Carroll days, is that statement really that nuts.

Between Hooper and Carroll, I certainly know who I'd want in my strikeforce, and it ain't the lanky grease monkey!!

As much as I'm not Neil Lennon's biggest fan i can see what he's doing. There's no way Hooper is worth £35m, he knows that as much as everyone else. He's protecting his Clubs prize asset by issuing a hands of as they don't wanna sell him and wont accept derisory bids.

I think he missed out a decimal point.

Divide that number by 10 and he's in the right ball park. It's no coincidence that it's Southampton looking and not Liverpool. Can see why Lennon said it but he obviously hadn't thought through the finer details beforehand.

I think Andy Carroll will be a good player. He's still young and has a lot of the attributes of a good striker. I certainly wouldn't want to mark him. 35M is still crazy though, probably half that would be a good amount for him.

Lennon isn't stupid and knows they'd never get even a quarter of 35m for him. This is probably a dig at a few things, english player tax as it was put, general ridiculous prices in england and the £9m bid for Jelavic the huns supposedly got last year!
