I'd say Shrek 2. Austin Powers 2 + Goldmember are both better than the first

I thought the 1st one was quite a good portrayal of the gritty life of a journeyman boxer. He got his shot, the champion didn't take him seriously, he came close but ultimately wasn't quite good enough. The 2nd one, IMO, was just too Hollywood. Rocky, despite 20 odd defeats on the slate suddenly develops into a boxer who can beat the undisputed champion even when he gives him his full attention.
Strangely i liked the other sequels becasue after the 2nd one took away from the realism of the 1st they just got silly and watching Rocky come back against Apollo Creed, convert Moscow to capitalism, beat up his own protege in the street and almost beat the champion at 60 years of age was pretty entertaining.

'For a Few Dollars More' and 'the Good, the Bad and the Ugly'.
'Godfather 1' and 'Godfather 2' are a perfect pairing - the third one's just dreadful.
