Good to have pre season football back. Saints D gave me a wee bit of hope last night for a better season.

Have 2 spare tickets to the NFL fan event at the usher hall tonight if anyone wants them? Me and the Mrs both applied for tickets and both got them so only need 2. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Interesting watching the fallout of the Kaepernick situation. Always interesting how the much lauded 'right to free speech' only applies so far in America, especially when some sort of social protest is concerned.

I agree with his stance, it's just unfortunate he's possibly my least favourite player!

I kind of agreed with what Drew Brees had to say

"The great thing about this country is that we have the freedoms that allow you to speak out openly about any issue. So I'm not commenting on the issue itself because any person has the right to speak out on any issue they want. That's the great thing about being an American. But the American flag is what represents those freedoms. It represents the very freedom that Colin Kaepernick gets the opportunity to exercise by speaking out his opinion in a peaceful manner about that issue. …
"Like, it's an oxymoron that you're sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out."
Theres no doubt that theres a lot of problems in the US but as patriotic as a lot of people in the US seem to be, disrespecting the flag (country) that gives you the right to protest maybe isn't the best way to go. Kaepernick is lucky enough to be in a situation where his opinion will be heard above a lot of other peoples. I think he could have used his situation to his advantage in another way.

    -----------------------------
On another note, College football starts this weekend, and with no hibs until Sunday I can get a full saturdays worth!

I've only just noticed this thread. I'm a huge NFL fan. Been to Wembley 3 times, going to Twickenham in October then to NYC to see Bears @ Giants in November.

Broncos fan, have been since the mid 90's.

I was at the kickoff event last night thought it was superb. Intresting comments re Ryan Tanehill and also what Reynols said about Kap!

A lot of the pundits' response goes 'I respect his right to protest...as long as he doesn't do it like that'.

Which kind of missed the point of a right to protest, no?

I don't think it was the Stars and Stripes flag gave him the right to protest at all. It's an inalienable human right guaranteed by the Enlightenment (and implicit in native American and slave societies as well, come to that). This obsession about the sanctity of The Flag is a bit creepy, like its a religious icon or something.

    But to the football...

Clearly the NFC will have all the quality as usual but it's going to be an Arizona Pittsburgh Super Bowl with the Cards breaking their duck.

There's a cream for that, I'm sure? If not, have you tried therapy?

I'm definitely not looking forward to having to go into Arizona in week 1, especially without Brady. We've looked OK in the pre-season games without being spectacular, but that's a tough road trip to start off with.

I was thinking about it more from Kaeps point of view, no one is talking about the issues they are talking about him!

Giants starting offensive line is like a sieve once again, can't believe we didn't try to address it in the draft or free agency, very worried

Bradford to the vikings for a first round pick next year and a 4th which can go to 3rd or 2nd depending on vikings success.

Eagles have absolutely shafted the vikings in this one.
