What I did was-
stop buying
stop taking freebies(even if it's "just one")
keep thinking that there's practically nowhere you can smoke anyway

Stop Smoking
I have decided to finally give up smoking. I've been on between 20 to 25 a day now for a while. Managed to cut down to only four yesterday which I thought was pretty good. Plan to ween myself off them so by Saturday I wont have any. What ways did other people go about it?

Ask at your GP about smoking cessation classes. You have a much better chance of succeeding, and you'll get nicotine replacement patches free. Don't be despondent if you don't succeed this time, it takes most people several attempts to give up.

I went to the classes, although I used Champix rather than the patches, just depends what you'd prefer. I found the classes really helpful though, I don't think I would have stopped without them, I've been stopped for 9 months now.

Buy this book.
Read it. Do what he says and you will stop. Easily. And forever.Spin it anyway you want, but 5 will never be 6 and it will never be 7.

I also took Zyban tablets. They made me like this
for about a month but the best thing I ever did.
2 and a half years and counting.

It's not easy and when you have a drink or a cuppa you really miss them. I console myself with the thought that I'm going to start again when I'm 80. By that time you'll have to get fags on the black market I reckon.

Filled Rolls is right. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
I had about three or four serious attempts before I finally kicked them. I have not had a fag now for about five years. I didn't use any patches or take any courses, just went cold turkey so to speak. But whatever works for you is best. All the best.

Been speaking to a few people about the smoking cessation classes and think I'm going to go for them, past couple of days I've managed to cut right down. I know it's probably just my mind playing tricks but I do feel the benefit already.
Just out of intrest is it true that Latapy used to smoke?

Or if you are female - you may have different stress patterns. So these books are written for women.

The problem with smoking for me was that it was filling a "hole". When I stopped, and I tried several times just through will power and/or that book (i.e., mind over matter), I found myself craving more food and drink (alcohol). I decided that fags were the lesser of these three evils and so went back onto them and the bingeing of food and beer stopped. Am I alone in this or have others found they resorted to other things?

I probably put on about a stone in weight after I stopped smoking, substituting fags at night for biscuits and chocolate. Yes, it pissed me off, but I've lost about half of that stone. It did cross my mind a few times about starting again but I'm glad I never.
I now look back and think of the times when I would be smoking (first thing in morning, after meals etc.) and can't quite believe I used to do it and for the length of time that I did.
