Saudi Ban on Registration Plates
What do you guys make of this?
Saudi Arabia are apparently banning certain sequences of letters which translate into English words.

One of them is certainly interesting.

"Human rights" will be a bitch to squeeze on as well. That'll cost a lot of Sheikh Robbing Barsteward's money to get that for his sons Merc M5

Do you not object to them doing that? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I get the feeling that there would be a lot more comments on her if America banned Muslim countries names from appearing in any context.

I think it makes perfect sense to ban USA plates, from a safety angle. Cars with plates like that would be targets for some of the nutters in SA; others in the vicinity would be put at risk through no fault of their own.

Pretty poor excuse really if that were the case. If it was, would they not give that as the reason?!This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It is banned where the letters are translated into English so it's not immediately obvious unless you're bi-lingual and think about the translation when looking at the plates. I'm sure there are better targets for nutters than a car with a number plate that translates into something else.
If it was America doing the same there would be pages of how racist and intollerent they are etc etc but it's all very quiet. Maybe racism and discrimination only works one way, who knows.

UDA and UVF are banned in the UK, but not IRA. Interesting, eh.Spin it anyway you want, but 5 will never be 6 and it will never be 7.

I never said it was but they would certainly be branded it if they started to outlaw the words Iran, Iraq, Afgahn, Saudi etc etc. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don't mind the fact that they have banned it, even if they banned UK I couldn't really care. It's just the fact that there are people on here who would be jumping up and down if America did the same.

They don't allow freedom of speech in Saudi.Spin it anyway you want, but 5 will never be 6 and it will never be 7.
