credit crunch not affecting the NY Skanks

Dunno if there are many baseball fans on this board but the New York Yankees have snapped up first baseman Mark Teixeira on a $180 million contract - they have spent an obscene amount this winter on players (CC Sabathia for $161 million, AJ Burnett $82million)

Absolutely crazy money that NOONE can compete with but it will be all the funnier when they fall flat on their faces.

from a disgruntled baseball / Mets fan.

As a short suffering yankees fan of 6 years(yes i know there history but they haven't won the world series since i've started watching baseball). the 2 pitchers are absolute quaility signings and that has been the main problem over the years. the bats have always been there but the starting rotation and especially the bullpen has struggled especially in post season.

If they're going to fall flat on their face... why you so annoyed? For the last decade Yankees have been taunted about how you cant buy success then when they sign a few players they get accused of ehm... trying to buy success!

The Yankees for various reasons will always have the highest wage bill in baseball but you're being a bit economical with the truth in terms of whats gone on this close season.

The figures you mention are for the entire duration of their contracts- the 3 new players you mention will earn about $60 million dollars BETWEEN them each season. Now at the end of last season the Yanks lost nearly $90 million of payroll with players like Mussina, Giambi, Abreu and Pettite leaving... so at present the Yankees have cut their pay-roll. What are they meant to do when they lose players and others are available to sign anyway-just not do it?

The Mets have spent a good amount of money themselves- the highest payroll in the National League!! It's a bit like Donald Trump complaining that Bill Gates is too rich
