Off to The Walnut on Leith Walk tonight before the Proclaimers gig as an early birthday meal.
Looking forward to it. Lived round the corner from it for years but never actually went despite always fancying it.
Was in a wee Deli/Cafe in the Grassmarket called Pirlous and had an excellent lunch there. It is run by a Persian guy and the food has leanings toward Persian cuisine but has Scottish and middle Eastern influence too. I had the soup of the day which was a beautiful sweet potato and veg soup service with a slice of shop baked focaccia olive bread. I then had their Mykonos Halloumi sandwich, grilled halloumi with sliced and grilled courgette, fresh spinach and an amazing chilli jam. Also had a really good flat white coffee. They bake all their bread themselves and they are looking to get a sourdough focaccia on the go soon. Really nice people and great food, not open evenings to just the lunch and breakfast options but well worth a visit. Very reasonable pricing too for the area.
Dishoom again magic as usual
Had lunch in The Newsroom after reading good reviews on here.
It was very good!
I’m shocked at some of the reviews of Cool Jade on here
Along with the Rendezvous, it’s my favourite Chinese, been many times for family birthdays etc
Would say Karen's Unicorn is the best Chinese in Edinburgh right now. Kweilin on Dundas St is also up there. The Loon Fung used to be amazing but since it changed hands (last year I think) then it has gone way downhill, which is quite distressing given how good it was. :boo hoo:
The Chinese Manor house does an amazing salt and chilli duck dish, best Chinese in Corstorphine by a mile for me.
Each to their own but I can't believe people ever thought Wong's was a good Chinese.
Visited west end brassiere which used to be Ryan’s at the west end.
good food, decent price, worth a visit.
The Alchemist tonight for food and cocktails. Been before but not for food, a party of seven of us thoroughly enjoyed it, the food was better than I expected if I’m honest.
New Restautant/Bar opening at the front in South Queensferry called Thirty Knots. Not sure if it’s part of a chain. On the site where Harry Ramsdens used to be
Tempo Perso is another good option in the ‘mid priced authentic family Italian’ category in Bruntsfield. I had ravioli stuffed with artichokes, two others had the meatballs, including a round of beers and a coffee afterwards for under £60. Family run place, great service, there’s a lot of competition in the area but I’d go back without hesitation
We went to The Jolly on Christmas Eve. Always think it’s a funny place as I’m never blown away by the food but always come away having really enjoyed myself. I should stress the food isn’t bad, I think I’ve just maybe ordered the wrong thing they’re the last few times and haven’t learnt my lesson.
I think the owner does a brilliant job of just making you feel really welcome and appreciated, we were clearly surrounded by regulars and people I know have gone there for years. I think it’s just a really good value, friendly restaurant with excellent service.
Looking forward to going back again.
Heading to Gauchos for Hibs VIP hospitality offering pre match on Wednesday night.
I've never been there before...
Hopefully I'll have a positive review to post come Thursday morning.
Dined at Vittoria on the Bridge tonight, first time in two years. It was tremendous both food and service.
