Sad news that he has sadly passed away. RIP Eric
Absolutely gutted to hear of this. Rebel was one of my early heroes. RIP Eric
Oh no. My first Hibs hero. RIP.
He was one of my first Hibby heroes and I have not long finished reading his very interesting autobiography.
Was a joy to watch. RIP.
RIP Eric.
A great player from a fantastic era in our clubs history.
GGTTH
Saddly passed away
Great player, great Hibby, great guy. So sad. Joe Davis is up there just waiting for Eric to win him some penalties in heaven!
Greatly admired by the Hibs supporters of his day. A very skillful and very consistent winger. Brilliant player for the Hibs.
RIP Eric.
Stevie was a member of the Walter Galbraith side of the early sixties, when my love affair with Hibs first began.
Wonderful memories of standing high up on the old East and watching Eric gallop doon the slope terrifying full backs on the way.
RIP Stevie, and thanks for the great memories.

I spoke to Eric regularly when he had his shop in Poltonhall, he would never let you out the shop without talking hibs.
A real diehard,a real legend.
RIP.
RIP The Rebel
Absolute hero!!
My sincere sympathies to the family of Eric Stevenson.
Eric was my boyhood hero.
I was once given a pair of Eric's football boots .
I certainly could not fill them.
A great memory for me, though faded now.
Eric scoring two goals in a 4-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle.
A Great Hibernian.
Eric "The Rebel" Stevenson
Rest in Peace
Never saw Eric play for Hibs but loved hearing his stories. An absolute gentleman who will be missed but many.
Devastated at your passing Eric and we all miss you.
Shine bright. 💚
He was one of my first hero's. I loved to see him coming down that slope towards us in the old shed skimming defences. He never got the full recognition he deserved for national team inclusion more often. RIP Eric. Thanks for the memories.
Extract from Pat Stanton's Hibernian Dream Team:
"Eric was hugely underrated. He could wrong-foot defenders in his sleep. If he was playing now he'd get at least 50 Scotland caps"
And from Pat Stanton's The Quiet Man:
"Joe Davis was a stylish left back who developed into a penalty ace. He scored 43 goals for Hibs, some record for a full back, but he owed a lot of them to Eric Stevenson. Eric was a very fine winger who would regularly cut into the box whereas too many wingers tend to just hug the touchline."
So sad. An early hero of mine.
RIP Eric.
I'm upset at this. He played in the first Hibs match I went to in 1964.
He had a distinctive style - not a speed merchant but with great dribbling skills and, of course, the ability to suddenly drag it past a defender and win a penalty, usually dispatched by Jim Scott or Joe Davis.
That's another part of my youth gone. Was he really only ten years older than me?
From the generation of players just before I started going to matches. But an older guy I knew spoke highly of him, including running rings round them all at primary school!!
The story on the official site about the League Cup final is simply brilliant. RIP Eric. :flag:
:agree: I moved into my house in Bonnyrigg 30 years ago with the help of family including my dad. Walked down to the local shop to get some stuff to feed the helpers and walked in to see Eric behind the counter. It was quite some time before I returned to the house having talked Hibs with Eric for a while. When I got in, my dad asked where the **** I'd been he was starving. "Talking to Eric Stevenson, he owns the shop...." No more complaints from dad, just questions on what we had spoken about.
RIP Eric.
RIP eric stevenson :(
Very sad to hear of the passing of this Hibernian star. RIP Eric.
Aw a legend for me.
Taken far too young
Before my time but doesn't mean I'm not aware of the significance and legacy of a player as good as Eric Stevenson.
Always sad to hear of the passing of a good Hibby. Especially a legend.
RIP Rebel
