An explosion has hit a bus carrying the Borussia Dortmund football team to a Champions League match, the club says.
Player Marc Bartra has been injured and has been taken to hospital.
North-Rhine Westphalia police said they were at the scene and there are reports that the fire service are also there.
What is the world coming to? Let's hope this turns out to be not as bad as it sounds.

Latest report has the player suffering superficial cuts to the arm. It also stated there were three explosions in vicinity of the bus - sounds like an attack to me.

Depends where you lived. The IRA and other Irish republican groups liked to blow up parts of England on a fairly regular basis in the 80s and 90s. The 1998 bombing of manchester was a pretty big explosion that would have killed many people if a coded warning hadn't been sent shortly before it went off. And if we're talking UK then ulster was far from safe at that time too of course.Quote:

Very true. The most dangerous things in the UK tend to be your family and the politicians in Westminster. In America the police are multiple times more deadly to US citizens that ISIS or any other terrorists ever have been. If there was a big terrorist problem they could bring Cities to a stop easily by taking out water and electricity and kill hundreds with nothing more sophisticated than a slab on a railway line. We are being programmed to be fearful. None of that of course excuses any of the bamsticks that perpetrate acts like bombing buses or the grief of those who lose loved ones. Its all about perspective to me. Not sure that page mentions the many more killed by the west in Iraq in what many would view as terrorist attacks. I'm contracting myself here but there probably is just as much terrorism in the world as there ever was but the vast majority of it seems to be conducted by elected Governments mostly in the west. Only shows Europe and the U.S. so you can't really say "the world is safer". Also Scotland would never have been bombed by the IRA as the cause of a united Ireland had a lot more sympathy here. Nuclear war was the big fear in the late 70's/early 80's rather than terrorism.Quote:

Good post, the bit in bold especially so. The point of my post is that the perception of terrorism has increased far beyond the levels of the past, as attacks were mainly localised. Saturation media coverage in the last 15-20 years has highlighted the global nature of the current threat and has become almost a weekly event and I have a feeling that the types of attack from individuals using whatever is to hand will increase as ISIS is pushed out of Iraq and Syria and their 'fighters' disperse.Quote:

Just watching the developments on German TV and a journalist asked if there's any truth that an extortion letter has been found near the scene. The reaction from the Dortmund press relations guy was very suspect.
Marc Bartra has operation on broken bone in his hand, German police saying a note has been found near the hotel the club bus was leaving from, what police believed was a targeted attack against the football side.
