This was posted on my FB wall.
The astute among you will have noticed that I declined to become involved in most of the hand wringing and wailing yesterday. I'm not going to start today, but I did realise yesterday that there is a need to clear the air.
I don't have many friends who voted...
Seems there is a big difference in what a progressive tax plan looks like between the parties.
Interesting debate to take place
A known terrorist has shot 2 dead and injured a number of others. MEPs tweeting they are safe.
Following on from a post I made in the Labour Party thread, here's a good explanation of the system which rules our lives; a system which, we are told, is the meaning of our lives, yet is never discussed and never explained. Instead there is a tacist and unquestioning attitude that this money...
How long does everyone think weíve got as a species?
I was going to list my reasons for starting this thread, but I think itís probably better if I donít and leave it up for discussion as a blank piece.
Over to you.
I visited Iceland earlier this year and I'm yet to see an Icelandic note or coin. It was contactless everywhere.
Meanwhile, here in Yorkshire my local pub doesn't accept cards at all. It's a Sam Smith's establishment though and their CEO/owner is renowned for being a bit of a maverick.
Even taking this to court is a waste of time and money in my opinion, but surely a warning, or at most a fine, would have sufficed?
Or am I being a snowflake and she deserved everything she got?
Revealed: the hidden global network behind Tommy Robinson
I try to be diligent and check which stories and emails etc are real and trustworthy before forwarding them and I've done a fair amount of research to determine that this is a legitimate scheme.
It may not come to anything in the long run, but when the FT and Martin Lewis are suggesting that the...
I thought it would be nice to have a thread about the positive things that happen in the world for a change.
Post your heartwarming stories in here.
First up - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24170670
As with most of the U.K. I am fully onboard with gin nowadays.
Whatís everyoneís favourite gin and your favourite tonic?
Iím looking to expand my palette.
Iím a big fan of Ophir (slight spiced peppery taste).
This article states that people are claiming Die Hard is a Christmas film and it’s tearing the internet apart.
Who would you nominate?
Nominees must have contributed to the field of science
They must be real
They must not be alive
They must have shaped thought, innovation, leadership or values in the UK
It's international fact checking day! And to celebrate, fact checking site the ferret has collated their results from the past year.
By comparison, the SNP (Scot Labour results were broadly similar).
Anyone else have these problems? My old man is from the old brigade who thinks pull yourself together is the answer. Never used to be like this and time in the army hasn't helped. However, I'm not afraid to admit things and feel no stigma in being affected by this.
Just wondering if other...
This year, for the first time, The Ballon D'Or had two categories; Male and Female player of the year. The winner was a lady called Ada Hegerberg from Norway.
Her acceptance speech was intended to inspire girls/young women to stick at it in football and be the best they could.
Yes or No.
Don't bother with comments, just have your vote.
Edit: You need to be on the full site to vote.
I'm thinking of applying to do one before I get too old. I know Topographic Hibby has studied for a PhD; has anyone else, and is there any essential advice you would offer?
Three years is a big commitment, then there's finances to consider. Any advice on funding options? I'd like to do it, but...
I find that as time goes by I am getting more easily distracted.
Sometimes I have to have internet access to do certain tasks, and the internet is a huge box of distractions, and I find that I can lose days to being hugely unproductive and getting very little done.
You may notice that on...
Interesting (in a dismayed, sickening sort of a way) report from the UN:
We all remember the adverts, but didn’t think they were still trading
See they are in the news today, who uses these sort of services nowadays, possibly older people. £11.23 for a 90 second call, outrageous
I decided not to post this in the Leadership thread as that contest is all but over. Corbyn will be declared winner by a huge margin.
So what does the future hold for Labour?
What with the exposure of Momentum promised by Channel 4 Dispatches already to be viewed tomorrow night, Panorama will...
I wasn't sure whether to post this here or the dug out. I know there are a lot of cooks and food lovers on Hibs.net so wondered if there were any tips we could share? I'm sure we all do something we think is unique with what we cook but tips can be really useful. It could be to add flavour, reduce...
I just read this on the BBC, I'd never heard this before, I'm amazed I wasn't taught about it at school.
It's kind of amazing. Imagine seeing that.
Why has this story appeared?
It's a total non-story, but it seems to me that it's designed to make sure that as many euro-sceptics as possible don't vote Labour.
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but i have suffered with a bad knee for years, so much so i have been told by the surgeon i need a new knee.
It will be done in the next 10 weeks.
Has anyone here had one of these done, if so what is it like now?
Can you do more than you could...
Sorry for such a strange request but, does anyone know of a bakers in Edinburgh that still sells proper old bran scones (in rounds and in four sections) ?
Watched a documentary about this recently and it makes you think twice about our landscape and culture. It was pretty uncomfortable viewing.
The involvement is something we simply havenít faced up to and batted away with ďIt wisnae us, it was EnglandĒ. One theory behind this is thatís itís...
Well, it's almost here!!
The unbelievable is about to happen tomorrow.
I wonder how it's all going to pan out.
Whatever happens, it's going to be a roller coaster. Hold on................
Absolutely disgusting. What kind of a world are we living in? :soapbox:
Josep Borrell (Who is Catalan but viscerally opposed to Catalan independence.)
"If Westminster agrees why should we be against it?"
Hopefully that clears that up. (Aye, sure it will ).
I mentioned this show on the TV thread in the Dug Out but it left me a bit conflicted so I was wondering if anyone else watched it and what your thoughts are?
Firstly I thought it was very well made and treated a difficult subject matter gently. Secondly I think it's too easy when discussing...
Good to see that pressure is building up against the NRA. It's good to see some companies starting to take a stance against this organisation.
When I hear anything from the NRA, I'm lost for words. How gullible are the American public to...
Sad to read that Stan Lee has passed away.
Not only did this man create many of the iconic characters of our modern culture, but he made it "OK" for geeks to be out in the open. It became cool to like comics again, and his narratives, resulting in an entire universe of characters, comics,...
Exactly what freedoms are we supposed to thank army vets here and in USA for?
WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan? Exactly what is it that millions of people died for?
Anyone given this a proper go? I started his fundamentals course yesterday. That lasts for 10 weeks.
My mates tried to warn me off it as he was pretty overwhelmed by what he calls kundalini.
It seems we are saying this almost daily but WTF?
BBC News - Man, 98, fighting for life after robbery in north London home
Awful awful assault. In a few days time we remember those who fought, regardless of our opinions on poppies this man...
It seems every year brings a new controversy or new story surrounding the national symbol of Remembrance.
I find myself balking a little at how the symbol and meaning behind the poppy has become utterly *******ised in recent years. It's no longer simply a symbol of those who fought and gave up...
Just watched an interesting programme on tv, about commonwealth workers who came to the uk during ww2 to work on farms.
Sam Martinez left British Honduras in 1941 aged 32 where he lived in the jungle, barefooted and scavenged for food, came to the uk and worked as a lumberjack in the borders. ...
watching live the now, looks horrendous
