What British authors do people recommend? I am looking to try different authors. It's mainly fiction I read but would be interested in people's opinions on any genre, both fiction and non fiction.
Daughter bought a pair of converse from USC.
When she got home she noticed that they had put the wrong size in the box . The trainers should have been a size 6 but there was size 5ís in the box which was marked size 6.
She popped back in to exchange them but they donít have them in stock but...
Anyone read this pish?
Gorgie is rightly proud of its footballing and industrial heritage ó brewing, distilling, printing to name but three ó and its tenements retain an authentic sense of a working-class community. Gritty, defiant, honest Heart of Midlothian FC symbolises what the district is...
Looks like Iíll be starting a new job before the end of the month, 11pm - 7am. Wondering if any Hibees out there have any tips on working nights?
Iíve done some night work in the past and I usually end up sleeping my days away, getting nothing done outside of work.
I was clearing out a cupboard today and came across 2 bottles of champagne that my wife & I were given on our wedding day 28 years ago.
They have probably been stored incorrectly but I wondered if they would still be drinkable or should just be binned.
The first is a Lanson Black Label Brut...
Recently our 2 cats (3 yrs old) have been brining more and more stuff in through the cat flap - not like they donít get fed!
Today was taking the biscuit.
Heard muffled meows from our bedroom - suspecting that one of our kitties had somehow locked themselves into a wardrobe or summit went to...
Really! What is the point?
I'm not a dog owner, never have been one, don't want the responsibility of owning one.
I understand dogs basically need more exercise than they're ever likely to get from humans taking them out for walks.
So what's this doggie in a pushchair malarkey all about?
Following on from the Beautiful Tracks thread, I thought of a few classical pieces that would fit the bill, but that thread went in a different direction, and anyway classical music is such a broad category I think it deserves a thread of its own. So, if you have a favourite classical tune or...
Has it always been the case or are today's youth more inclined to spend ridiculous amounts of money on Xmas presents, usually on over-priced pish generally used for status symbols on social media.
Back to work and lads and lassies in work rattling off their gift lists, Gucci bag for her, Tag...
Radio 6 has inspired me to suggest this almost impossible task to you all.
I know it runs the risk of people posting things to make themselves look cool or sophisticated or whatever, but it might be cool to hear what folk have enjoyed this year.
So, What are your 3 favourite songs of the...
Anyone else not lifted a finger yet? Nae cards, nae presents bought. The Mrs has done the food shopping; leave everything to her :agree:. I just can't be bothered this year. I've finally become a grumpy old basturt; used to love Christmas, too.

Have asked this question before, when are we going to get the Hibs.net banner updated to show our glorious cup win???
Got a reply from a mod last time that it was on the to do list but that was over a year ago.
Where's the wise money being saved nowadays for regular savings?
In the past I have thrown away anything battery operated where the batteries have leaked-corroded and the terminals of the device have become covered in a crust of battery acid type stuff. Just had the same happen with my son's tv remote. I decided to Google a remedy and discovered vinegar on a...
I've got a mate who sleeps 4 hrs a day and is still a fully functioning human being. He swears the secret is to make sure it's only 4 hrs otherwise he's knackered the whole day. 4 hrs good 3 hrs or 5 bad.
Me? I work shifts so sometimes the alarm goes at 4am and sometimes it goes at 4pm but no...
Recovering from a slipped disc has lead to me watching some absolute rubbish but this brought a smile to my face.

Am I over cynical here? Electricity providers want a smart meter installed in our homes in order to save money by not employing readers
to go from house to house, sometimes several times if no one is in. Bills issued and collected by DD. Huge savings to the supplier.
Yet they want us to use...
Can you remember the joke he told about (I think) the wee boy who tells the Pope to F off?
I'm trying to find it on YouTube but no joy so far.
Has anyone read the whole six volumes of this novel? Often mentioned as the greatest novel of all time; an epic concerning love and loss, time and memory, the role of art to humans and the transience of life, set within the French aristocracy at the turn of the twentieth century. Not a Jackie...
Anybody watch this?
I saw the first episode was being shown on C4 last night. I'm on Episode 5 and it's brilliant.
Damian Lewis is excellent, as is Claire Danes. So far it's shaping up to be a well-observed take on a number of subjects in the CIA/post-Iraq genre which haven't been covered...
This isn’t about your favourite films, it’s about the ones you stumble across on any given night and once you start watching, you know you’ll be in to the end.
You maybe weren’t looking out for it but when you are scrolling through the EPG you find it’s on and it’s an automatic press of the...
Out of interest, have the protests that are taking place in France this weekend been given much msm coverage in the UK?
Off to Berlin for the weekend for 3 nights. The Saturday evening will take care off itself as i'm off to see Hertha v Eintracht but any other recommendations for things to do and see, any neighbourhoods/districts outside the center worth a visit etc?
Will see Checkpoint Charlie,...
Iíve just been made redundant from my work, a month before Christmas which is far from ideal. I will literally take anything to get me through Christmas/New Year, I just need cash for the festive period. So Iíll pop the question... Does anyone know of any jobs going?
Iíd prefer the building...
Horse racing or even just horses, can't begin to understand the fascination with them.
Monarchists, some people seem to love the Windsors more than life itself, wtf is all that about?

As an alternative to the Pet Peeves thread, and to hopefully spread a bit of cheer, what are the simple things in life that make you smile :greengrin
Or give you that Yaaassss!!!! fist pumping moment. :aok:
I'll start it off with one of my favourites:-
When you bite into a Kit Kat finger...
Wonder if anyone can help
A Jambo at my work says he was in New York a while back and there were a few Hibs tops on show.
He canít remember the bar of it.
Any Hibees sheíd any light on this ? Iím heading over next week and would love to visit this bar if it exists !
Was on a 5 day break down in London stayed in Tower Hill area and noticed that as it was a business area the amount of folk in suits whom I assume are at work were in pubs drinking from 11am and on lunch etc quite surprising and is that even allowed in jobs these days?
Hello. Or should that be Hallo?
I mentioned it in train thread Iím away to Munich next weekend to take in the DŁsseldorf game.
Any recommendations for other things to do in the city. Iím sure there will be many a pubs visited (Iíve worked out thereís a massive one beginning with an H?!)
My wife has never tried calamari, but doesn't like it. There are other examples. Several folk on the "Things you haven't tried" thread profess to disliking things they have never tried.
That baffles and frustrates me.
Apart from supporting another football club, or causing yourself pain, I...
£2.15 a 🍺 @ The Foot of the Walk, bargain.
My Mrs will be 60 next month and sheís made it absolutely clear she doesnít want any surprises or anyone to go over the top buying her presents. This has scuppered me somewhat as I had a few ideas of going away somewhere for a few days nice meal etc. But sheís adamant she just wants a quiet time at...
Wanting to get a pair made to order. Anyone recommend anywhere?
Just wondering where the best place to go tomorrow night for a fireworks display? I stay close to Meadowbank so we normally go there but hadnít given it any thought this year until I hear loads going off just now.
I know Musselburgh do a free one but I suspect thatíll be crazy busy...
BBC News - Gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger killed in prison
A predictable end really. Both Johnny Depp and Jack Nicholson portrayed him well but as an FBI informer (if correct) he was always going to struggle in prison. Not a nice guy at all.
Alright guys my bands new album is out today if you want to give it a whirl. Bit differant to our old stuff hope you enjoy
