Any thoughts on the best coal out there. Recently moved house and installed a multi-fuel stove and a coal fire. Been using stuff from Homebase, it's murder, any recommendations?

Local coal merchant would be your best bet I would think. Do you live in a smokeless zone? If so that's going to limit what's available locally I suspect. We're outwith Belfast's smokeless zone and can buy different grades of coal, turf and logs in pretty much any service station and there are a good few coal merchants dotted around too. Go into the city though and it's noticeably different with just the smokeless coal and briquettes for sale.

Getting a decent sized delivery from a merchant would be your best option for quality and economy I suspect.

My coal merchant has 50kg of Comumbian Trebles for £19.50. Thankfully I'm also not in a smokeless zone.

I don't know what that is but as long as it burns then 50kgs should keep you warm for a few nights :greengrin

I'm clueless whether that's good or bad. I'll order a bag and go for it.

If you've got multi-fuel appliances then buy the smallest amount you can of a few different things and see what works best would be my advice. As long as it burns you'll stay warm and have something to stare at whilst also satisfying your inner pyromaniac :fire:

It is mental how you stare at it. This needs researched.

We must be getting bigger if we’ve got supporters on Craggy Island.

Colombian for £18 is the best. Buying from a garage is about three times the cost and nowhere near as good.

Pure Columbian it is then, looking forward to telling the wife I'm buying 150kg of pure Columbian.

Sounds like a storyline from The Broons, where Hen Broon bursts into Granpaws living room screaming 'just say no, dinnae dae it, drugs are poison' when in fact it was just coal he was buying #sighof relief

Little does Hen know that Grandpaw's just wired into some heroin to take the edge off the swedgers he'd necked just a couple of hours earlier.

'I saw Bairn stuffing her face with some jeelies doon the precinct earlier' Maggie exclaims.

(paw and maw burst doon the stair in terror followed by the whole family, ending with the obvious finale of bairn actually eating fruit jellies).

I should have worked for DC Thomson :agree:
