Anyone got any favorite soundtracks or bands that you've discovered on the back of watching something?

Trainspotting has a great soundtrack, especially for those of us who were in our late teens at the time.

Twin Peaks new season has had some good tunes on it, got me listening to the Chromatics, who are quite similar to College (featured on the Drive soundtrack, which is also excellent).

The Leftovers soundtrack was excellent fit the series, not sure how it would go on the drive to work though.

Any others worth looking out for?

On TV - Girls and Master of None have a lot of good stuff. Also quite liked the Mogwai soundtrack on The Returned.

Trainspotting one is class. All of the 'This is England' series and film too for me.

Not what you mean but talking of soundtracks - I can't concentrate when I am writing a report and have proper music on. So I tend to just sit listening to soundtracks with no words. Anything from John Williams and Hans Zimmer. Helps me focus.

Really love the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Some excellent songs on there.

Also a second shout for The Social Network soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Growing up, the American Pie 2 soundtrack was a staple of my pop-punk youth.

Some great shouts here already. Really agree with

Baby Driver
Master of None
Donnie Darko
Jackie Brown (virtually all Tarantino to be fair)

Also keen recently on Searching for Sugar man.

Big fan of The Virgin Suicides and a few other Sofia Coppola films. Dazed and Confused, Goodfellas, Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous.

Can't beat a bit of Isaac Hayes too

Bit of an old one, Teachers (which is on demand on channel 4) had any amazing soundtrack, as did Trigger Happy TV.

They're playing Kelvin Grove Bandstand in Glasgow after our game at Ibrox and Party at the Palace in Linlithgow the next day.

I still have the CD but there were some cracking songs played in the series that weren't on it.

The Boy With The Arab Strap is the stand out though

:agree: One of my all time favourite songs. I was watching the first season of Teachers last night, it's aged really well. I've got the DVD's somewhere and pretty sure I had the CD at some point as well.

Leftovers is tremendous. Really cranks up the intensity.
The composer Max Richter has loads of great stuff. Also played at EIF 2 years ago which was immense.

I will throw in:
Full Metal Jacket
Assault on Precinct 13 (or any John Carpenter really)
It Follows
Red Riding, in particular part 2

I didn't know the song until I listened to 'Tribes' (no longer together) cover of this, available on youtube.. beautiful :greengrin

Anything by Scorcese usually a goer, thanks to his love of the stones. Goodfellas soundtrack is brilliant, including all the New York/Specter type stuff.

I enjoyed DJango Unchained's tunes too. Pulp Fiction also.

Agree with American Pies anaw!

Thinking about it - Happy Gilmore has a few quality tunes in it as well :greengrin

Agree with Matty's shout for Hi Fidelity, the film that introduced me to The Beta Band.

I'll add Dazed & Confused for some classic early 70s Rock such as Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith.

Funnily enough I recorded that a few weeks ago from BBC 2 onto my box and looking forward to watching it again when I have the time, this time around with a more mature pair of eyes and ears :greengrin as I've not seen it since being a young lad growing up in the 70s.

Another film with a great soundtrack was Animal House, a cracking film with classic songs.

I saw The Who perform Tommy in full at the Albert Hall back in March.

It was great but the gig really went to another level when they finished Tommy and played 5 or 6 of their classics. Daltrey's voice is still incredible

Saw them play Tommy at The Hydro. I really enjoyed it as something different and can't see them ever touring that album again given their age. Although hopefully still got many a touring year still left in them.

The crowd and atmosphere wasn't a patch on Hyde Park for their 50th anniversary though.

A film that surprised me in 2 ways was Drive. Starred Ryan Gosling but film eas excellent the soundtrack however is for me what made it. Sort of 80s synth sound to it all. Movie is really excellent a very polarising film.

That's weird was just about to post Drive when i noticed the thread. Johnny Jewel had a big hand in it. Look him up on Soundcloud he puts up loads of material. I was up on stage dancing with the band at his Chromatics/Glass Candy gig, some Tuesday night that was.
