The chairman needs to take a long hard look at himself before blaming anyone else for the mess mate. He makes Petrie look like a football expert. He's given up the ghost long before the players sadly. Not signing a single player in January was the equivalent of chucking the towel in. The similarities between Villa and Hibs before our relegation are frightening. They need their own Dempster in to shake them up from top to bottom.

It's worth noting that every other club in the mix spent big. Buying nobody, not even wheeling and dealing and getting a few new faces in on loan or something is unforgivable really. A huge signal that they've admitted defeat which is poor when you see the likes of Leicester saving themselves last season in not too dissimilar circumstances.

Was his budget as big as the teams that finished top 4? Genuinely no idea but would doubt it.

Still to claim he brought in dross when they were 6th three seasons in a row is clearly wrong. In the English Premier League you don't finish that high up the table with dross.

It was bigger than Evertons and he was always behind them, was also spending more than Arsenal in transfer fees.

He did bring in dross and all Villa fans would agree, just think about who he signed.

Maloney - 1 million
Harewood - 4 million
Reo-Coker - 8.5 million
Carlos Cuellar - 7.8 million
Habib Beye - 3 million
Heskey - 3.5 million
Routledge - 1.5 million
Curtis Davies - 7.5 million
Zat Knight - 3.5 million - Sold Gary Cahill so he could make this deal...
Sidwell - 5 million
Warnock - 4 million
Nicky Shorey - 4.5 million
Richard Dunne 7.2 million

He signed some quality players but the majority were pretty poor.
