Chopra went in hard on Gray, no foul given. Gray chases down Chopra, tackles cleanly and then confronts him. Ref books both players, seemed to invigorate the players and they broke and scored. Could be worse.

After he scored, straight from the kickoff he was in about it again at the touch line no messing, coming away with the ball and showing some class.

Great player.

McGeought MOTM.

Personally I thought Bartley.

Big Marv was outstanding today. A lot of excellent mopping up and some good work going forward too. Toss up between him and John McGinn for MOTM for me. McGinn just gets better every time I see him. A top prospect.

McGinn is a player.

Of that there is no doubt, but I didn't think today was one of his better games.

In fact I would have give the other 3 starting midfielders better marks today.

But I like McGinn, tries like a bear and isn't afraid to tackle or shoot, I just thought his touch and passing were a bit off today.

Took his goal very well.

Probably the most one sided game you will ever see, other than their brief flurry early doors when Fontaine gave the ball away and their attack led to a corner I can think of only two things Oxley had to do and to be honest I am sure I could have accomplished them as easily as Oxley did.

They spent virtually the entire game with 11 men behind the ball

Defence were completely untroubled, midfield did really well, Keatings had a few chances, so I suppose he must get credit for finding space for them but looked a bit off it and Cummings goal apart even more so.

But if he scores every week its difficult to criticise.

I thought Mcginn was pretty poor in the first half, Much stronger in second half and came on to a good game. Bartley and McGeough were the two top performers for me...

Good team performance, and good to see a bit more invention at corner kicks. We must get some goals if McGinn keeps pinging them in like today

2 big differences today for me were we played throughout at a higher tempo and with width, both of which we need against a 4-5-1 formation. Aberdeen will be quite different and it will be interesting to measure ourselves against the best team in the country just now.

Straightforward win today. As per the Raith Rovers game, I think Stubbs should pick a 3-5-2 formation. Alloa did nothing going forward and must be bottom 2 again.

McGinn and Bartley best for us.

There's no need to play 3 centre halfs against teams like that

Bartley did some excellent mopping up and tackling 2nd half but I'd struggle to think of any contribution of note in the first half.

I think today's line up will serve us well for away games but I'm not convinced it's the optimal balance for home games. With us having so much possession Bartley can be a passenger and I'm not convinced Henderson is all that well suited to playing at the top of a diamond.

Another wide forward in a 4-3-3 would be preferable IMO.

Not complaining with 3 home wins to nil but think we can get much much better.

An enjoyable afternoon watching an improving Hibs side. Good to see a few candidates for the MOTM, and for me personally it was a toss up between McGeouch and Bartley, but Dylan`s fresh air swipe in an attempted volley cost him some points and my award went to Marvin.
A good all round performance and three points, and the kind of performance we need to repeat every game in order to stay in the mix.

Because they average about 6 thousand at home games and i can't see Killie bringing a big support.

MOM - If he hadn't been subbed it was between Henderson and Dylan for me. A couple of posters pointed out what I thought. McGinn didn't have a great first half and was going to post that from the game. He did finish strongly and was unlucky not to add to his goal - same with Liam, audacious flick that just missed the post after a decent penalty shout. If Dylan's fresh air volley dropped him points then so did Marvin's stumble in the box in the first half. He did catch one outside the box in the second half though.
Have to give a shout out to Dom. Thought he held the ball well and made good passes for the guys running on. Boyle's pace as well a couple of times as well unlucky not to get more goals.... Even Oxley made the one save he needed :greengrin

I'd drop Gray and Stevenson and play Boyle and Carmichael as wingers with McGeoch, Henderson and McGinn in midfield. It would make for a more attacking formation.

Never in any danger of losing this game to be honest, I think I could have played in goals for us. I would have given MOM to Bartley, he strolled through the game and broke up their play time after time, keeping it simple with his passes. To be fair nobody had a bad game, though at times I would have liked to see us drive into the box more.

The only thing that worries me is, how does playing in games like this pretty well every week prepare us to play a team like Aberdeen? Alloa's attempts at attacking, what there was of them, were pretty half hearted .... and to be honest that applies to most of the teams we play. I'm a bit worried the adjustment to play a team like them, who certainly wont sit back, is going to be tough for us.

Good midfield performances all round today, and all different styles, which is pleasing. Best midfield in this league, no probs..

McGinn was my MOTM. He's looking like one of the best signings we've made in many a year, and like Hendo, I feel there's a lot more to come from him. And his set piece deliveries are much more dangerous and productive than Allan's were...

Bad news about Keatings but the difference is this season we have a squad which will allow for these injuries.

How did Feruz get on?

Only 15 minutes ,and while he had some tidy touches ,and had some assured passes ,and one great ball that he hit with blistering pace into box that caused problems ,he seemed to be in mo mans land a few times and was looking to stay on the edge of the box but not see a lot of the ball .
But enough to think that if he gets 100 % fit and applies himself he will have a role to play in the squad .if keatings has tweaked hamstring again ,and Farid not mentioned as being ready for inclusion in squad then he could be a timely signing

Decent second half after a sluggish first 45 mins.
McGinn clear motm in my opinion.
Really annoyed with the Keatings injury. Me and my mate were convinced he was moving awkwardly for about 10 mins before he went down and were shouting for Stubbs to get him off-especially after we went three up! Did anyone else notice him struggling? I'm sure I didn't make it up at the time! Really frustrating if it could have been avoided. Ridiculous how many hamstring injuries we've had recently!
Bartley played really well but I'm not sure he's needed at home to teams like Alloa? Should we be playing with an extra more attacking player from the start in games we are obv going to completely dominate? I know we won but maybe the game could have been over a bit quicker if we went for it more at the beginning?
The ref was an absolute disgrace!! How come when we go to the likes of Ibrox/Celtic park we get nothing from refs yet when we are the 'bigger home team' we also get nothing?! It's getting ridiculous this season already.
I must be getting really old and boring as I was personally glad that the wee gadji didn't get to steal our match ball.

I don't agree with this.

Bartley was outstanding and was my MOTM. Even against lesser teams you need to win the ball back quickly to maintain pressure and he did this superbly.

Our team looks much stronger for having a "specialist" ball-winning defensive midfielder and he'd be the first midfielder on the team-sheet for me for that reason.

He allows the other midfielders to play and the fact that a decent case could be made for any of our midfielders to be MOTM today would testify to this.

If we had had another more attacking midfielder on then we might have had the problem where we have the attacking midfielders getting in the way of each other trying to create, something I thought we suffered from on occasion last season.

If we had had another more attacking midfielder on then we might have had the problem where we have the attacking midfielders getting in the way of each other trying to create, something I thought we suffered from on occasion last season.

Fair enough mate, all about opinions. I agree with a lot of that. Just feel that we were 60 seconds away from going in at the break to a chorus of boos and a 0-0 score line. We're still not coming out the traps and killing games early like Hearts done all of last season and what Rangers are looking like doing most weeks this season

I don't agree with this.

Bartley was outstanding and was my MOTM. Even against lesser teams you need to win the ball back quickly to maintain pressure and he did this superbly.

This is exactly where I am with Bartley. I thought that he was brought in to address a systemic weakness from last season and would play if he was fit.

Yep, we were and it was a concern.

But I thought that it was still down to poor decision making in good positions in the final third rather than a personnel issue.

And some of those decisions seemed to be more about confidence than anything else (Henderson squaring it when clean through on the keeper, Stevenson choosing to pass when the ball broke onto his left foot about 20 yards out).

We got the job done - comfortably in the end - and we look much better once we've got the first goal.

But I certainly agree that it's still a bit tetchy until that point. We still don't have that expectation (like Rangers do) that we'll score eventually and beat teams.

A couple more wins and hopefully it will be there.

Agreed.

What happened in the end as there was some action on the pitch so I missed it? :greengrin Thought it was :faf: when he ran down to the concourse

Two stewards went after him and one eventually appeared with the ball a couple of mins later. As I say, I must be getting old now that I'm in my 30's as I was glad to see the ball returned haha

Re the hamstring stuff. Has the head of sport science defected to the hun yet? Hopefully the hamstring business is something he will take through to Murray Park.

Bartley played an important role yesterday. He broke a lot up. Who else would have done that?

I might be wrong but I thought he was now away? Doesn't seem normal to get this many hamstring problems at this stage in a season??
Not sure, Henderson possibly if say, Boyle, had started with Liam a bit deeper? Who knows. Fwiw I though Bartley played really well. I just want us to be killing off games quicker than we are I guess

:greengrin Thanks. Nah, I must admit I wouldn't have wanted him to have got away with it either :aok:

Alloa are crap.

:agree: the poorest team I've seen at this level. They were a much better team last year.

Bartley was good-someone has to get the ball and he does it more than the rest of the midfield put together.Keatings and Cummings are not a good pairing-too similar in what they want to do-one or the other in future.Concerned to hear Stubbs say on radio that he thought we started off too quickly and in a hurry to get in positions. That might be true at a proper level of football but in this division the way to win is to set off like a train and have the game won before the opponent realises it's started-we saw that last season and Rangers are doing it now.

Our midfield was excellent yesterday - a delight to watch. Bartley made a great foil for the other 3 with his ability to deal with any attacking threat Alloa posed (which was admittedly, very little) and Henderson, McGeough and McGinn have wise heads on relatively young shoulders. The strikers were pretty anonymous I thought but that's more because the midfield was so dominant and Stubbs seems to want most of our play to be focused in that area.

My only real gripe was the wee fanny that ran off with the ball in full sight of everyone. I hope he gets some kind of punishment for that as it's basically theft.

Sometimes certain players just have problems with the same muscle injuries, it's in their DNA, Sturridge at Liverpool is a good example.

I agree with this. Livi should be better as they will surely attack more being at home which should give us more space. Still think we lack width with the current starting XI.

I thought the midfield dominated yesterday and we looked more like we did last season with the width coming from the fullbacks to great effect.

My main question mark is still up front. Cummings is a must-pick due to his reliability injury-wise and his scoring record yet he still hasn't struck up a partnership with anyone. In spite of having 8 or 9 attacking options now that Keatings appears to be injured it is hard to see what Stubbs plans to do here. I like Boyle but it really didn't work out for him up front with Cummings against Stranraer the other week.

I would have been annoyed if we weren't winning at the time and we were chasing the game. At his age I probably would've done the same. Come to think about it I would do it nowadays if I could run fast.

Would love to see a 3-5-2 with two true attacking full-backs in McGregor and Boyle or Eckersley. Bartley playing the Matty Jack role:devil:

Haha, I know it sounds like I'm being a miserable sod but these balls cost Hibs money (I've heard ~£50 a piece, maybe more). How would folk feel if the same kid had gone into the clubstore and pinched a shirt and ran off with it?
