Not sure, but I think it took a long time to drop. I seem to recall 'Footballer' cards in the late 60s or very early 70s that referred to us as Hibernians.

Yip - I think you're right.

It's a little known fact that in the 1957/58 season Hibernian Football Club (of Scotland) swapped leagues with Hibernians (Malta) and each club played a season in the others league.

Hopefully swap for next season.

" We" never dropped the S. Wev'e always been Hibernian. The S seems to have been a news paper reprorting style in days gone by.

Agree.:agree:
I have supported Hibs for over 70 years and have a number of programmes ,tickets etc., from many of those years : none with "HIBERNIANS" appearing on them

Aye, it was indeed priceless. Could've easily listened to him speak all evening. You could never tire of his Hibernian knowledge. The story re the 1887 medal and others was astonishing.

hibernians seems to have been a popular way to refer to hibs around the start of the 20th century, certainly from a cigarette card perspective anyway.

Mathematically speaking ...

If shortening Hibernians = Hibs
Then surely shortening Hibernian = Hib

:stirrer:

Doesn't necessarily work like that though:

Singular, Heart of Midlothian. Shortened version, plural, Hearts
Singular, Dundee United. Shortened version, plural, Arabs
Singular, Aberdeen. Shortened version, plural, Sheep

Dumbarton, Sons
Peterheid, BlueMoggeners
etc etc etc

Might be wrong but I think someone asked the same question here a few years ago after Hibs v Barcelona ( Fairs Cup not friendly I think ) programme was reprinted with Hibs v Dundee programme ( last game with main stand maybe ? ) . That would have meant Hibernians being used in 1960s .
