The Sopranos (without which none of thw above would exist. Followed by breaking bad and recently sons of anarchy. Although granted never really gave GoT the te o feel it deserves

I agree, the ending for most series would be a conclusion like - Tony walks away from it all, and lives happily ever after. Tony dies leaving the fan base a bit dissapointed or goes out in a hail of bullets ala scarface.........or leave the fanbase wondering ;) As frustating as it is not knowing, its a brilliant ending and done the trick as EVERYONE talked/talks about it still

I've read 2 theories 1. He's dead. 2. The cut to black as an ending signifies the uncertainty of Tonys life and the fact that he could be killed at any moment. I agree with you, he's dead based on the conversation he has with bobby in the boat about the afterlife where they agree that when you die that's it over, it just ends.

Just started watching Breaking Bad this week. Meant to get into it for years but never have.

Loving it. Watched the 1st series in 1 sitting, intended to watch 1 episode of the 2nd just to get it started and ended up watching 4 on the bounce. Heard it just gets better and better as well.

Right up there with the likes of The Wire, West Wing and The Sopranos imo and i can't pay it a higher compliment than that.

He did and it was. Lots of clues leading up to it and some of the previous episodes.

On other series, most of them get a bit boring or hard to follow after around 3 series. Breaking Bad keeps going pretty well.

I know what you mean, although I read an article by one of the writers or producers a few months ago and they stated the intention to tie up all loose ends in the final series, rather than leave questions hanging; I think they largely achieved that.

Your best 'legal' method is to sign up to Tivo and stream to laptop to TV or if have Virgin Tivo it is an app on the box. All Seasons are available as well as lots of other TV and films, £6 per month and you can cancel at any time (first month free).

I got the boxed set for Xmas and was really looking forward to it having heard so much hype about it. I have to say that I am a little underwhelmed by it. I'm almost at the end of series 2. I understand the better series are the latter ones so I hope this is true. The main problem I have is that the storyline a lot of the time seems incredible and is often full of holes. The action can be a bit slow and is often predictable. Having said that I enjoy the characters and the often black humour

I struggled up to season 3. It got better, but was eating into my sleeping time. I found I was forcing myself to watch it, rather than through enjoyment.

That bit about forcing yourself to watch it is how I'd describe it for me and my flatmate said the same thing. Wanted to see how it ended/what all the fuss was about/everyone was talking about it so I stuck with it but from start to finish it took me months to watch (admittedly, I took a bit of a break to watch all of Game of Thrones (much better)).

I would say the first 3 and a half seasons were poor, boring and predictable with the odd decent moment.

The final season and a half was good with the rare poor moment.

That episode with the fly in particular for me summed up the first 3 seasons of the show.....

I love both but couldn't agree that Boardwalk is better. Very different shows and in style Boardwalk is closer to The Wire in its slow build each season. Early chapters often seem irrelevant only to prove important to the story as things come together in final few episodes. Dunno if you are up to date but i thought season 4 was back to its best after a mixed third season. Sad to hear that next year will be its last as they've barely scratched the surface of Luciano and Lanskys stories!

I'm currently on Wire re watch for umpteenth time as my missus hasn't seen it. For me that remains untouchable as the greatest tv show ever. An important story and "all the pieces matter". Plot points from episode 2 come into play in episode 50. It's so well constructed and very little I'd change about it.

The Wire is good but I found it a bit depressing by the last series.

Not to have a go but that is of course the point? The futility of war on drugs, the self serving nature of institutions and the decay of American cities/society. The myth of equality of opportunity.

I'm halfway through re-watch number 7 or 8. An absolute pleasure and in a strange way I find the most depressing parts the best as they make a real impact.

I actually think they should show The Wire in schools.

Sick of people going on about these programs so I deliberately don't watch them in a strange act of defiance. It's made easier by the fact I don't have sky and the programs are always on their third series by the time I get wind of them so I reckon it isn't worth it if you have to trawl through hours just to catch up.

I've just realised that the whole series of breaking bad is on Netflix so I'm going to watch the first episode and see what the fuss is about. Wish me luck!

Three episodes in and I'm loving it. :aok:

I thought he would never get round to that job in the basement.

Glad you are enjoying it, there is no such thing as just one episode with Breaking Bad

You're not joking. Now up to episode three in the second series.

Rather than being slow, I'd say that it's giving the characters time to develop. That episode in Tuco's house has been the highlight so far.

Gripped from the freaky intro right up to the end.

You thought that intro was freaky wait until you see the teddy bear in the pool and the reason for it! :paranoid:

Hey YO, I was not expecting that!

Loving the way the characters are changing slightly. I'm warming to people who I initially thought were ********s and there's one or two whos darker side is now coming out.

Well worth the Netflix cash alone. :agree:

I would put both the Wire and Sopranos before it. It is excellent though.

The Wire takes a lot of patience. It was half way through season 2 and it went from slow and boring to absolutely fantastic.

I expect it to be brilliant second time round though.

Just now finished Breaking Bad after getting through 33 episodes in 5 days, quality stuff :agree:

I've never usually got the patience for long TV series but this one was an exception.

Watched on Netflix too, highly recommended if you don't have it.

On another note, if you've got US Netflix, 'Bates Motel' is actually pretty good too :agree:

The Sopranos, then Breaking Bad, then The Wire, for me. Might start watching The Sopranos from the start again actually. Love it.

Excellent! Still think West Wing was the best ever tho, closely followed by Breaking Bad and the Sopranos in no particular order.

One of the best things about breaking bad is the fact there's absolutely no intro just straight onto the episode. The Sopranos always bugged me with about 2 minutes of credits :greengrin

I loved The West Wing too.

Yep. Would be all over the entertainment news.

Also, what would happen in season 6?

I've heard folk speculate 'Walt didn't actually die' which would mean one of these awful character resurrections with an awful story to justify it.

I would be really against a season 6. The show had one of the best possible endings, wrapped up everything it needed to. Just needs to be left be now imo

Exactly, Walt had to die! He wouldn't survive a gun shot wound whilst having cancer!

Still, this is not reported anywhere else so we can safely say it is *****.

Yep, looks that way.

Although I would absolutely watch a 6th season, as it is my favourite show ever, I loved the ending. Tied everything up nicely, and was definitive enough for me. Walt definitely died, no doubts about it.

But...what if the gun shot the cancer off giving Walt power to escape and starting a new adventure? Stranger things have happened.

I know, I'm wasted in my current job.

I havent seen any of Breaking Bad, at all until i started watching it on Tuesday night.

I've since watched 15 episodes and im absolutely hooked, its brilliant.

Needless to say i've skipped most of whats been said on this thread even though i kinda know how the show ends anyway from reading stuff when it originally aired but im kicking myself now that i didnt get into this before now.

Watched Breaking Bad after much prompting from mates and have enjoyed it.

Since then have been rewatching The Wire for the first time for couple of years and now onto season 4 and have to say that is still my favourite, far more complex characters, more involved plots and diverse story lines.

Fair enough season 5 of the The Wire isnt its strongest, but like Season 1 of Breaking Bad thats more down to the TV company not giving it the go ahead to deliver the full series the writer(s) wanted.

Games of Thrones next and Sopranos box set in cupboard ready for the winter evenings.

Not sure what to make of this - http://empirenews.net/amc-announces-breaking-bad-will-return-for-6th-season-you-wont-believe-this-plot-twist/

Generally not a fan of something returning when it has finished as rarely lives up to previous standards, but given the standard of writing cautiously optimistic.

Finished watching BB and thought it was very good.
Think I'm going to do the Sopranos next.
We had started watching Orange is the new Black but it's not what I thought it would be.
