I can't help with the window company as I had my windows made for me by a friend in the industry, but what I will recommend is uPVC Sliding Sash. While they are more expensive to the tilt and swing type, they really do look the bollocks (I'm in an old Victorian house) and are worth the extra £££'s.

I got mine with Georgian bars and sash horns and they look like they're made from hardwood.

My friend picked up a couple of window jobs from my neighbours after they saw them.

Most people on the FENSA website should be fine. That was the advice I was given anyway (from a glazer that specialised in wooden frames, which I couldn't use) and the guy I went with did a good job.

If you get new windows make sure and keep hold of the FENSA certificate. We recently moved house and the sellers before didnt have one. Think it took our lawyers about a month to sort it out and that was after we paid £50 for some insurance policy.
