I've long been a fan of Classical music but lately I've grown addicted to listening to contemporary scores from TV shows and Films and it's quite amazing how overlooked some of these can be.

Without some of the music, many of the more popular shows/films just wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they are.

Obviously the likes of Hans Zimmer and John Williams need absolutely no introduction but I've lately become hooked on the work of Michael Giacchino. He was responsible for the absolutely beautiful Lost soundtrack and I was quite fortunate to see him conduct "Lost" backed by the amazing San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra.

An example of some of the Lost highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrNDFCjs5sc

Any other really good scores out there folk will confess to liking?

His music for The Cook, the Thief, his Wife & her Lover is superb.

Another great favourite of mine is Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence.

About 3 years ago we were asked to play at a concert at the Lorient Festival with a guy called Goran Bregovic. My mates were quite excited about the whole thing but to be honest I didn't have a clue who he was. They explained that it was him that did the music for le Temps des Gitans - Time of the Gypsies. It was a discovery I was delighted to make.

Ennio Morricone :not worth:not worth:not worth.
Anything and everything. Probs most famous for the spaghetti western but done so much more including the likes of casualties of war, the Untouchables and once upon a time in America. The music in the spaghetti's no bad though :aok:.

Im a big Ry Cooder fan. His solo albums are great and hes a good live performer too but theres just something about the way his music links with the visuals that works really well in films.

His resume includes Paris Texas, Crossroads, The Long Riders, Buena Vista Social Club, and my personal favourite, Southern Comfort.

Soundtracks in Tarantino's movies are very good. Specially like the "Kill Bill" music.

Michael Mann's Manhunter. Great tracks from The Reds and the best use of Inna Gadda Da Vida ever. It's also my favourite of the Hannibal Lecter films.

:agree: Very fine.

Clint Mansell is a very good contemporary composer of film scores. He does a lot with Darren Aranofsky - The Fountain, Black Swan (although Tchaikovsky can take credit for some of it too :greengrin).

Perhaps his best work is for the wonderful Requiem For A Dream.

Anyone who doesn't think they're familiar with it will almost certainly recognise the Lux Aeterna, listen here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl5McGN2L-E), though to be honest it's more likely to be associated with its latter hijackings - as a soundtrack for furry shortarses with magic rings, or Sky Soccer Saturday - magnificent Jeff :agree:

Check out the music from 'The Hot Spot'. Ry Cooder, John Lee Hooker and Miles Davis. Superb!

Now that IS a classic. Great film, great soundtrack. The scene with the tiger backed by "Coelacanth" is really creepy.

I rather like "To Live and Die in LA" too, from the same period.

It's not a TV show or a film but the music in Fallout 3 is brilliant. There are two separate soundtracks - the radio station which is 40's Jazz and Swing and then there is the ambient score by Inon Zur and it compliments the feeling of roaming a post-apocalyptic wasteland very well. He never named the individual tracks, but the segment of entering the wasteland for the first time in the game and the first time in the life of the character is one of the highlights.
