Noticed the team of the year was a barca-Madrid select, so much for the premiership being the best league in the world!

Ronaldo looked pretty gutted / jealous at the end.

Pleased with this. Ronaldo is a great player but there's only one winner. If Messi stays clear of injury then I wouldn't be surprised if 4 in a row turns into 10 in a row.

For me a big part of Messi being the best is the sportsmanship he shows. Doesn't dive, isn't up his own arse like Ronaldo and seems to play purely for the love of the game.

The EPL is the best league to watch but some of best players are in Spain. How did RVP not make team of the year? There is anti EPL at UEFA and FIFA due to the TV money on offer to the league. But in Spain each club does their own deal which makes the league really unfair.

Dont agree with this, the EPL is just as unfair as La Liga, if you look at the last 20 odd years since the premiership started there's been 5 different winners, in same time in La Liga there's been 5 different winners. Including a a period of 4 years where there were 4 different winners and in the 5th year Sociedad came second and that would've made it five different winners in five years.

The EPL has only just got their 5th different winner last season and thats only because some clown took over Man City.

No players from either of the Champions league finalists?

Lahm should be in ahead of either Alves or Marcelo.

Pique getting in the team of the year ahead of Chiellini is bizzare. Also didn't think Alves was that great last season.

Two great players but if I had the money and was told I could only buy for Hibs then it would be Messi every time.

And then I'd be called clueless on Hibs.net for signing a player who's too small.

Maybe not the best way to go about it but that's a great attitude imo.

A player wanting to play every single game over players constantly bleating about playing 2 games in a week for me.

:agree:

In any interview or documentary there has been on TV. They always mention his desire to play regardless of circumstance or opposition he just wants to play football.

All I can say is in my experience of watching Messi I have never seen him dive. As far as I can see he always tries to stay on his feet although his style of play does result in a lot fouls being committed on him. I also agree with the earlier posts, although maybe not the best way to react you can't doubt his desire to play and I'd rather have a reaction like that than a player like Tevez who refused to play.

This is quite a good article comparing Messi and Ronaldo, including the results of an academic study on the two players! "But they don't play anything like each other. They have both got the speed and the skills, but for me, Messi plays only for the team and that makes him a more dangerous opponent."

Btw does anybody know what the score was in the El Classico after this article was published? I'm guessing Barca won.

BBC (I think) also had a look at the three nominees at their stats... Messi had more assists than Iniesta!

Doesn't dive? Seen him dive numerous times!

IMO the best, but can't be proven until tested at another club

I would have voted for Ronaldo, he was a major player in their title win with 46 goals in 38 games. Both are great players but for me Ronaldo pipped it. Boths players scoring records as whole are staggering for Barca and Real.

Messi played 356, scored 289

Ronaldo played 171, scored 171

Two teams dont make a league .. we should know that in Scotland better than anyone else.
