Murray wins 6-3, 6-3. Not quite as straightforward as the scorline might suggest, but, a good result against a tricky first round opponent.

Tsonga beats Raonic 25 23 in the 3rd set. 3hrs 56mins makes it the longest match in Olympic tennis history.

Heather Watson on next.

Good result for Murray, Nieminen should never be causing him any problems anyway but he's a decent player.

Can't see Murray having too many problems in his next match either against Marcos Baghdatis. Although, he will have to start the match a bit better than he did when he played against Baghdatis a few weeks ago at Wimbledon.

Seems like a great match between Tsonga and Raonic. What is it about Wimbledon that brings about these marathon matches!?

Also a fantastic win for Lleyton Hewitt today who rolled back the years to see off Marin Cilic in straight sets. I think that will be as good as it gets for him though as he faces Novak Djokovic in the 3rd round.

Murray will be back on court tomorrow against Baghdatis and will be third on Centre Court which will mean he'll be on at around 4pm.

Murray v Baghdatis just started, Murray loses the first game on his serve.

HUTCHYHIBBY

Murray quickly broke back, but, lost his serve again in game 7. Not looking too happy just now. Loads of unforced errors.

Murray wins the 2nd set 6-1, looks like a complete turnaround, Murray taking charge of points early makes a huge difference.

Lisicki v Sharapova looks like a classic in the making, Lisicki takes set 1 8-6 in a tie break after 73 mins. good stuff!

Both players have their plus points on the non tennis side of things too (just a pity Ivanovic isnae the umpire!)

Off tomorrow so can't wait for Federer v Del Potro and then Djokovic v Murray, should be two crackers!

Federer is on first at 12pm and then Murray is on third, which should be about 4pm.

Sandwiched in the middle of both matches is Serena Williams v Victoria Azarenka, which shouldn't be bad either!

Murray is actually in action twice tomorrow as he is also in mixed doubles action with Laura Robson in their quarter final against Sam Stosur and Lleyton Hewitt.

HUTCHYHIBBY
03-08-2012, 12:00 PM
Del Potro playing very well, takes set 1 6-3 v Roger.

Federer into the final winning set 3 19-17, what a match!

Sir David Gray
03-08-2012, 04:30 PM
Wow!

What a wonderful match between Federer and Del Potro! Must go down as one of the greatest 3 set matches of all time!

For them to get more than 4 hours into the match before anyone had even got a match point shows just how close the two of them were!

Federer just showed his class yet again though, after serving so many times to stay in the match in that third set, to finally come through and win 19-17 in that decider was just amazing!

I'd love to see Murray win gold for obvious reasons but if Roger Federer won Olympic gold in the singles then I don't think too many people could grudge him it, considering that it's practically the only prize in the sport that he hasn't won yet and also given the fact that by the time his next opportunity will come around in Rio de Janeiro in four years time, he will be almost 35 years old.

Serena Williams v Victoria Azarenka on now with Williams leading 4-1 in the first set.

Andy Murray will finally make his appearance against Novak Djokovic at the end of this match.

Sir David Gray
03-08-2012, 05:13 PM
Serena Williams is through to the Olympic final tomorrow after beating the world number one, Victoria Azarenka, 6-1 6-2.

She will play Maria Sharapova tomorrow in the gold medal match.

Up next is Andy Murray!

Brilliant performance by Murray, thoroughly deserved victory.

The first match today was simply outstanding. Normally it takes a best of five set match to get something as good as that but it was brilliant viewing.

Obviously it's back to Grand Slam conditions for the final now for Murray, since it'll be played as a best of five set match, and with it being exactly one month on since his disappointment in the Wimbledon final, what better way to get over that than by beating exactly the same opponent, on exactly the same court and to claim an Olympic gold medal!?

Just gutted I won't have the chance to see the final as I'll be working. :boo hoo:

Best I have ever seen him play. Outstanding. I thought Djokovic was excellent too and apart from missing one shot on break point, did all he could too.

Murray/Robson into the semis after a 2 0 win over Hewitt/Stossur

It was 2 sets to 1 but nevertheless they are through.

Never quite understood why some sports in the olympics have two bronze medallists whilst others have one.

Never actually saw, I'm sure thats what I heard somebody saying as I was flicking through the channels, anyway, not to worry.

It was a wee bit confusing, it was one set all and instead of a third set they played a tie break.

GB went 7-5 down so I thought that was that but the tie break was up to 10 and we won 10-8.

Fantastic performance by Murray so far!

Dominating most of the rallies and, for once, he's the aggressor.

Quite poor from Federer today though, it's obvious that his four hour marathon against Del Potro on Friday has taken its toll.

Well done Andy Murray!

Excellent performance from start to finish and a richly deserved prize at the end of it.

Unlike many of the sports on show just now, this isn't the highest award in tennis, I think even Murray himself will acknowledge the fact that, if given the choice, he would rather have won last month in the Wimbledon final. However there is no doubt that this is a brilliant achievement for him and I just hope that it gives him the belief to go on now and win a major one day.

Get in there Andy, really chuffed for you! :aok:

Brilliant result for Andy. Hopefully he can push on and break through in the majors.

Would be nice if he could win the mixed too.

Sir David Gray

One set all in the mixed doubles final.

Robson and Murray played so well in the first set but Mirnyi and Azarenka stepped it up in the second set.

It'll be a championship tiebreak to decide the gold medal match.

Good luck to Robson and Murray! :aok:

Robson double faults in the first point. :boo hoo:

Sir David Gray

It's a silver for GB in the mixed doubles.

Looked promising for so long but not quite enough.

Robson wasn't good enough. She will be some tennis player if she keeps improving though - still young.
