Anyone know the name of the tool to enable a removal of a screw that's knackered?

Bascially it bites into the head giving some grip....totally forgot what its called!

Try taking a decent (ie. "hard") screwdriver and hammering it into the stripped screw head. You might be able to reform it enough to remove the screw.

Can I ask what you are removing the screw from?

There are tools simply called screw extractors available from places like screwfix or tool station. Depending on what your are doing they may be able tae advise you on the best thing. Anyhoo must dash for now. Do let us ken how you get on.

For some reason that's not working!

It's just a door frame that I'm removing hinges from but as it's rented accomodation I don't particularly want to knacker the wood by digging it out.

Something along these lines may do the job http://www.screwfix.com/p/screw-extractor-set/18643;jsessionid=TLh3PTNB13KmLhkLmKF2qjTwnT1nv8xT4 G4Yflltj0bKJ8qdVb32!1694968305

They're "easy-outs" and will probably make more mess than drilling, they're really for use on broken bolts/studs in metal. I'd personally just knock the screw into the wood with a punch then fill with wood filler :dunno:
