My Samsung Galaxy S is ****ed, due to my peculiar decision to drop it down the cludgie last week. My phone company are unwilling to fix it, its not covered by the warranty and i have no insurance. I have ages to go with my contract. It costs £275 or something mad like that in the shops.

Any ideas on a cheap way to get it fixed? (or anyone got a nice phone for sale?):greengrin

I was in Simply Fixit last week getting an ipod screen replaced, and I noticed a sign saying that they repair water damaged phones. So presumably it can be done. Might not be cheap, though.

You could claim under building & contents insurance (I did this fairly recently)? Presuming you have that.

Have you tried a basic dismantle and gently drying with hairdryer, it might simply be a damp component needing dried out?

A cheap and easy experiment and as long as you do it with a gentle heat you won't make matters worse.

I tried drying it out but no joy. i sent it in to virgin and they say the screen is gone. which i think is fairly problematic.

Some bank accounts also have phone insurance as part of your 'perk'.

Individual phone insurance is a total rip off, they will try and lay it on thick about how quickly the specialist insurance company can get a new phone to you if required...it's all baws in my opinion!

I've heard that putting the phone in a bowl of dry rice works as it pulls the moisture out of it. Maybe too late to try now but worth mentioning.

As a last resort you will probably get cash on ebay selling it as faulty

I did this for my brothers phone - put it in a bag of rice overnight and the next day it was working fine!

:agree:

To be honest, it's the sort of thing you should have noticed before sending it away. :greengrin
