I know this won't mean much to anyone else on here but I've just seen on the BBC SPOTY programme that the unsung hero award has gone to Janice Eaglesham and Ian Mirfin, who I know very well, for their work in running the Red Star Athletics Club, which is for people with disabilities.

The club is based in Glasgow and has been going for 20 odd years and the work that Janice and Ian have put in over the years, which they do on a completely voluntary basis, in helping athletes to develop and find their potential is quite outstanding and they are extremely worthy of winning this award. The pair of them are so down to Earth, have brilliant personalities and are just all-round fantastic people.

Without them, athletics for disabled people in Scotland would be in a much poorer state.

It comes just a few days after two of Ian and Janice's young athletes were mentioned on Reporting Scotland for winning 4 gold medals and breaking 4 world records at an event in Dubai recently. Which is even more remarkable when you consider that they are only 12 and 11 years old.

Well done to both Ian and Janice. It is great recognition for them and fantastic publicity for the club as a whole. :applause:

Here is a wee bit about the club and the work that Janice and Ian do.

And here is a wee bit about the two young athletes that won those 4 awards and broke those 4 world records.
