I'm watching there live show from 'O7 on Sky Arts and can't get over how cringy it all seems. I'm usually quite pro-reformation but in the case of The Pistols I think they've almost spoiled their legacy. It's a piss-take in Rotten's case. Was their first reunion show in the '90s as bad? Anyone on here see them at the SECC?

I saw them a few times in Germany and Belgium in the 90s and at Crystal Palace in (forget when) have to say i enjoyed it. Doubt many bands are the same second or third time round. That said i saw Wire last week who were brilliant!!

I've watched that gig before and felt the same as you Sean.

I dunno how Shed Seven were first time around but they were great last night! Going to go and see The Ordinary Boys on Sunday too, their first two albums were good and I saw them in the Queens Hall in 2005 and enjoyed it. I'll go and see any marginally decent band that comes up here in reality though.

What do you think their legacy is?

I think in the Pistols case that is partly the point, to destroy the legacy and any myth left over. Part of what they did in the first place was to reveal rock and roll myths and destroy them. The "legacy" was mostly lies and misunderstandings anyway.

How can you tell they weren't cringey first time around being only 21?

The secc gig was pretty poor iirc but that was more down to the sound quality though. They were superb in the first of those 96 reunion gigs at finsbury park.

I was at that, really enjoyed it. I was a teenager at the time so a bit smaller than now and got a few elbows in the face and a dr Martin in the back of the head from a crowd surfer. Still amassing though.

Saw them at the Summercase festival in Barcelona a few years ago. Played all the classics and put on a good show.

That Filthy Lucre album is immense. I honestly don't get the "legacy" angle. What legacy? It was music to dance to in mucky old venues. Out of all the bands from the era when that style of music was still vibrant and vital the Pistols, The Who and The Faces showed how it should be done, in yer face no nonsense BLARE. Biggest regret with the Sex Pistols was that they didn't allow Matlock to play on the Bollocks sessions, which he offered to do despite being booted out. Would have been a far greater album.

Listen to the Pistols Manchester '76 bootleg - they are rough but the talent shines.

Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones and Paul Cook were interviewed on Saturday 19th November 1977 by DJ Jay Crawford, as part of the 3 day promotional tour of various radio stations and Virgin Record stores for the newly released "Never Mind The Bollocks" album. (Broadcast on the 26rd November 1977)

Jay Crawford quote: "Yes I interviewed the Pistols when they came to Edinburgh, they were absolute ******s. They were about two hours late, one of them took out a knife and started carving the table in the studio and they had about 20 or 30 complete tossers following them about. After the recorded interview we all went to Mathers Bar on Broughton St and the crowd followed us in. It was mobbed but when the Pistols left and all the people had gone we noticed that they'd only bought three half pints between them."

Steve Jones does a pretty decent job on both guitar and bass on the bollocks album :agree:

from that era i reckon slaughter and the dogs were absolutely superb as well, never get tired of listening to do it dog style
