Wasn't sure where to post this on the forum, so mods please move it if necessary.

I have been bringing a French friend to Hibs matches over the last couple of seasons and have been explaining everything Hibs to him - history, culture and prematch boozing! He recently asked why he has seen photos of hibs casuals with green, white and black union jacks. I had to admit that I had no idea, especially due to the (albeit, rather subtle) anti-unionism amongst some at Hibs. Anyone know how the flag came about? Is it basically a piss-take of the union jack, or a symbol of the Hibs casuals' attempts to conquer Britain?!

The huns absolutely hate it, so that's a fair enough from me.

The Union Flag becomes a Union Jack only when flown on a sea-faring vessel.

:greengrin Knew that would come in handy one day.

The green / black flag is the official flag of a region in either Norway or Sweden, canny mind which.

I'm sure there was a thread about 6 months ago.

Which answers why it's used by our casual element!

No - properly, it's only the Union Jack when it's flown from the jackstaff of a Royal Navy warship.

At all other times it's the Union Flag.

IIRC the first green-white-and-black flag I saw at ER in the form of the Union Flag was made by one of the guys from Lancashire - blackpoolhibs, by any chance?

Not a casual.
