Listening to Radio scotland and have just heard Nirvana's Smells Like Teen spirit remixed into some sort of Jazz/Swing Jackson 5 piece of crap.

Kurt Cobain wpould be turning in his grave.

Anyone else heard this abomination?

That is actually not bad by comparison.

Why can't people just leave metal/rock/punk songs to be just that, instead of ruining classics. :bitchy:

Not that I don't like a gid dance tune (I have a Numark X9 mixer myself )

Listen to this (skip the first minute if you don't want to listen to the talking), this guy is **** hot!

The implication being that it's okay to cover songs by bands you don't like...

Because this is in no way shape or form awesome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlS4_BLHjRg&ob=av2n)

Neither's this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcHNZVrxEts&feature=related)

Not what I meant at all.

Changing the genre of a song more times than not, destroys it - be it dance to rock, jazz to electro (admitedly, that would be quite intresting to hear though), house to metal....etc

All in my opinion of course.

Although, of course there will be exceptions.

That may be one of the wrongest things I've ever read on here. In any list of 'the greatest covers of all time!!!1' you will find it dominated by versions of songs that completely reinvented the original by using the piece in an entirely different context.

Like Joe Cocker's "With A Little Help From My Friends".

And then there'll be a bunch of covers of Hallelujah that all sound exactly the same...

There have been some awful cover versions of classic songs.

Three that spring to mind are

Undercovers 1992 version of Baker Street

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq9XykJ-Po0

and Louise Reknapps's (as lovely as she is), version of Stuck in the Middle With You

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eETrcuZJbas&ob=av2e.

and DJ Sammy's

version of Boys of the Summer.

That dude on the guitar just took one of the most iconic rap songs of all time and ruined it IMO!.

Yea, I know, I'm in a minority with this one :greengrin

I understand the concept of a cover, I simply feel that changing the genre of a song like Smells Like Teen Spirit totally destroys it.

I realise that there isn't any point in covering a song if it's going to be identical to the original - people like to leave thier "mark" on it, if you know what I mean.

I suppose my initial (and third) post could have been worded better to say something like:

I hate most covers!

:tee hee::stirrer::tin hat:

*Probably should have engaged the ol' brain before posting eh......not the first and last time I'm afaid

Aye, think so - although it did sound worse at the time, probably something to do with the fact that I had a rather sore head at the time...........:dead::ill::sairhead:
