Wee Toaods to make Festival debut

...she's asked me to take her into town today so she can busk. :shocked:


saw a young girl playing a harp last week in the Royal Mile and she's got the bug for it.

Not anything I've ever been involved in before but to calm her nerves, I've told her that if she's crap she'll need to pay the people...:devil:

well that was an experience....started at the top of Cockburn Street but too windy as she needs to use her music books (she's only 12 yo)...stopped for a drink, moved up the high street to just next to teh court rooms and some folk started watching as she set her gear up. Next thing a Festival steward appears to tell her she couldn't play there uness it was for free. moved down to the side of Art Gallery but strangely no musicians at all there just more of these steward assisted jugglers.

Moved along through Princes St Gardens to Waverley Market for a Star Wrap at MacDonalds, then decided she would callit a day as she didnt want 'stuff' in her clarinet. :rolleyes:

Biggest laugh of the day ....a couple of folk gave her cash when she was simply 'limbering' her fingers up and hadn't really got under way.


ahh well, she's done it so :top marks for having the guts to stand up and play, New Orleans 2025 here we come....

We live in a pretty messed up society when these beggers do nothing and get money but a wee talented 12 year old lassie is actually trying to earn some money gets moved on.

Strange one this.

Edinburgh, IMO, is actually quite a good city for busking. Rose Street, for example, has great acoustics and plenty space.

However, at Festival time all that goes out of the window. To be fair to the Fringe workers, they were enforcing the rules that are designed to prevent the High Street being the nightmare it used to be. However, "busking for free" and "organised busking" goes against the basic principles of the game..... as well as the anti-establishment origins of the Fringe itself.

Never mind, though, Toaods, the streets should be back to normal soon, and the wee one can get out there again. Make sure you get your 15%!
