Anyone recommend any good ones in Edinburgh?

I am looking at:

http://www.puregym.co.uk/ (http://www.puregym.co.uk/)

.....but I am mainly interested in weight training using free weights and this one seems a bit cardio/machine based.

If anyone could give me some recommendations, it would be much appreciated.

I posted this on john18722's post re David Lloyd.

I joined factory gym, Calton Road(basement of the old GPO). I paid an annual membership which (back in November) worked out at less than £20 a month with no joining fee. This gym has state of the are cardio and cable/free weights with olympic bars.

Factory Gyms (http://www.factorygyms.co.uk/)

It's not as basic as 'The Gym' that used to be at Longstone and Marionville Road, then again, it 'aint David Lloyd, and it doesn't pretend to be.

The only downside is there is no steam room/sauna and there is a distinct lack of PT's on the floor, always handy of you want to stretch out and need a hand!

p.s I have no personal/business interest with the gym, just enjoy the facilities and hope others do too!

Cheers mate! Just phoned them and got them to drop the £45 joining fee too. Result!

The puregym has a decent amount of free weights.

The rest of the gym is about 50/50 with weight machines and cardio machines.

I would recommend the edinburgh uni gym, you dont need to be a student, £24 a month, no joining fee but you do need to pay 3 months in advance.

Heriot Watt Gym is only like £15 a month, thats where I go its really good they have a room with about 15 machines, all technogym stuff so its all modern, and they have a massive free weights room but you need to do an induction to be able to go inside it..

the gym isnt that busy compared to greens and david lloyd etc and its even better in summer when the students are all gone you have the whole place to yourself, the only downside is that you sometimes see the likes of andy driver or the hearts young team! :grr:
