I can think of a few but one for me is Milburn.

Here's some of their tracks for the uninitiated

YouTube - Send In The Boys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeBHhwku9t4)
YouTube - Milburn - What You Could've Won (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKx9gP9M6Gc)
YouTube - Milburn - Cheshire Cat Smile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn0HcBb5XHA&feature=related)

I think they were just about at the wrong time...the same time as the Arctic Monkeys. It's as if they were the "Paul McCartney" of the Sheffield music scene and the Arctic Monkeys were the "John Lennon". One was seen as Rythmic and slightly uncool while the other was seen as more socially conscious and slightly angrier. I think there was only room for one band to flourish and Milburn bit the dust before they really should have. Great, catchy songs and very young so why call it a day when there could have been so much more?

Check One Two.

Didn't even make it to our....erm I mean their...........first gig. Top tip for all aspiring bands. Have a repertoire of more than one song. And if each band member does only know how to play one song it helps if it is the same song. :agree:

The Skids split far too early and The House Of Love great band should've been far bigger.

Desaparecidos, only had one album, Read Music Speak Spanish but probably the album I've listened to most, every song on the album is fantastic.

Conor Oberst got more mainstream success with Bright Eyes, so carried on with them, although IMO nothing they have ever done has come even remotely close.
