Today saw the start of 2nd round action at the Cincinnati Masters, when the big boys begin.

Roger Federer played American Robby Ginepri knowing that if he lost he would probably lose his number one ranking by the end of the week.

It didn't start off well for him. Ginepri took the first set after a shocking tie break from Federer. The second set went to a tie break as well but Federer levelled the match. The deciding set was no contest as Ginepri seemed to crumble as he lost 6-0.

So Roger lives to fight another day and hangs onto his world number one ranking by the skin of his teeth but for how long?

He will now face the giant Croatian Ivo Karlovic in round three.

Tomorrow sees Andy Murray return to the court after his impressive showing at Toronto last week. He plays American Sam Querrey in round two.

3rd seed Novak Djokovic plays Italian Simone Bolelli and the man of the moment Rafael Nadal plays Florent Serra as he hopes to win his sixth consecutive tournament and continue his astonishing run of 29 straight wins.

Murray is 2nd on court and he should be on around 6pm. Djokovic is then on after him and Nadal will play at midnight.

Should be an exciting day's play.

Good start for Andy Murray today as he progressed to round three of Cincinnati after beating American Sam Querrey.

Murray had a slow start as he found himself 0-3 down in the first set but soon recovered and Querrey had started to crumble before the tie break, which Murray comfortably won.

The second set was far more comfortable. Murray looked as if he would win it 6-0 but a bad service game got Querrey on the board at 4-1. However his resistance was to prove short lived as Murray broke again and then held serve to win 7-6 6-1.

He will now face the winner of the match between Richard Gasquet, who of course had that incredible match against Murray at Wimbledon this year, and Dmitry Tursunov.

Murray a set and 4-1 up against Tursunov :thumbsup:

On Sky Sports Xtra if anyone wants to watch it :agree:

He is playing some really good tennis at the moment and some of his shots in this match have been incredible.

Another fantastic win for Murray today in beating Dmitry Tursunov 6-3 6-3. Some of his play was outstanding and he is really coming into a rich vein of form.

He is now through to the Quarter Finals where he will meet Carlos Moya after he beat Igor Andreev 6-4 7-6.

World number one Roger Federer's poor form continued as he was sent packing by the gigantic Ivo Karlovic. The Croatian won 7-6 4-6 7-6 and put 22 aces past Federer in the process.

World number one in waiting, Rafael Nadal will face Tommy Haas in the night match.

The 1/4 final line up looks like this;

Karlovic v Kohlschreiber
Murray v Moya
Gulbis v Djokovic
Lapentti/Verdasco v Haas/Nadal

My guess for the semi final line up would be;

Karlovic v Murray
Djokovic v Nadal

Shocking start by Andy Murray today as Carlos Moya tore him apart in the opening set today as the Spaniard walked it 6-2.

The second set looked as if it was going in a similar direction as Moya broke Murray early on to lead 2-0. However that was as good as it got for the former world number one as Murray won five games in a row. Moya broke the sequence with a hold to make it 5-3 Murray but the British number one held his serve to square the match at one set all.

The final set was no contest as Moya lost the plot and Murray came through 2-6 6-3 6-1.

He will now face big serving Ivo Karlovic in the semi finals after he advanced past the German Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 7-6. The Croatian fired down another 24 aces to add to the 22 aces that he put past Roger Federer in the previous round.

The other two 1/4 finals between Gulbis and Djokovic and Lapentti and Nadal are played later tonight.

Fantastic win for Andy Murray last night. His whole attitude seems to have changed over the past few months and he has been given his reward for all his hard work.

He was made to work for the win last night, however I think that overall he deserved to win last night and I just hope that winning his first Masters title can push him on to achieve even greater things at the Olympics and at the Grand Slams, starting with the US Open at the end of this month.

Well done Andy, you did Scotland proud! :thumbsup:
