Shame to see this guy hang up his gloves and bat. Retiring from tests at end of current match with India and one dayers at the end of the up and coming CB series.

Great player, especially in the one day games. Going to miss watching him.

:agree: Truly fantastic player to watch.

Remember first hearing of him when he was playing ODIs and thinking he would have a hard job following Ian Healy who had played a big part in one of the greatest of Australian sides.

Gilchrist arguably played in two of the greatest of Australian sides although not sure if describing it as 'playing' does him any justice.

Simply a joy to watch at the crease. Especially those all too common times when he would absolutely boss some poor bowler in a single over and take 24 or 26 off him.

Yes a truly great player. That makes Warne, Mcgrath and now Gilchrist three of Australia greats of the last few years all gone.

maybe England will get a chance now!

Gilchrist is a modern great, totally redefined the number 7 position and wicketkeeper-batsman role. Most teams were happy with competent keeping and a few forties/fifties now and again. This guy would completely change the course of games, blast a hundred and put Australia in winning positions.

A wonderful player, could change the course of a game in an hour. Unlike many of that Australian side played the game in the correct manner, which didn't always please his captains.

I think he played up here as professional for Perthshire a few years ago.
